New Kid Buys Timepiece
Good Day!
I am excited to say that I am a brand new member with a brand new watch and a brand new love for timepieces and modern male accessories. After much discussion within my personal circles, I decided there was no better time to buy my first token of self-appreciation. I made a single phonecall to my closest AD and was able to walk in and out that same day with my dream: the white face SS Daytona. It hadn't even been unpacked from the shipping container! This was to be my first major personal purchase; and being that the stars aligned for me the choice was clear. I actually had the option of the white or black face; but opted for the white as it was a little more sophisticated to me.  Showing some love to my fellow Rollie Pollies  Even though I apparently have a slight irritation to prolonged extreme exposure with 904L Steel (Hehe and when I say prolonged and extreme, I sleep and hike with this thing...), I have 0 regrets or remorse for my purchase. One question I have would be in regards to cleaning this bad boy: I need to make sure I and my watch are grime-free so as to not to feed an ill-famed wrist rash, both upstaging my watch and ruining my experience. I'm seeing conflicting support for and against the use of an extra-soft toothbrush in addition to the well-received warm water and soap. I refuse to use chemicals or anything that could compromise the integrity or luster of my timepiece. Thanks!__________________________ Kristofer |

 Strange you react to the steel  I would just use warm mild soap and water, I have not taken a brush to my watches but a soft tooth brush from inside bracelet if needed Welcome and huge congrats on obtaining a true icon of a watch!!

Thanks for all of the advice! I started researching my irritated wrist and found that 904L contains higher concentrations of nickel, which can cause a reaction in the hyper sensitive. I think mine is a case of overall sensitive skin and the stubbornness to indulge every moment of life with watch-on-wrist (sans rest) that is my ultimate downfall.
I wash weekly with warm water and soap, then blow/pat dry, and I now sleep 'Lexless... But it is right at my bedside. Naturally. This seems to help and all... I just miss it. |

Congrats and lets see a wrist shot!!
A soft toothbrush, handsoap and water works for me. Some folks also sing praises about varaet spray (spelling?).. but as for me.. soap and water & a brush works just fine. |

I take my watch in the shower with me and use a little squirt Dr. Bronner peppermint soap on her and wash her down with just my hands. Hang it on the cold water knob to rinse off. Simple, fast and looks great. Congrats on your new purchase.

Nickel content is probably the reason for your reaction.
I was surprised when Rolex moved to 904 SS as they would have known that this would raise the nickel content. There is no easy way to fix this short of taping the back of the bracelet and case. Welcome to the Forum and great choice of Rolex

Welcome. Nickel in the steel could be irritating you or might it be sweating and heat build up when hiking et cetera with a constricting bracelet.

Welcome and congrats on the Daytona.
I too get a rash with a Rolex, especially in summer, from 904L. So I bought a Tudor Pelagos and that solved the problem as it's titanium. I alternate with a Rolex. I would not wear it to sleep. Let your wrist get air. An AD service manager told me that for best results wash it nightly with hand soap and warm water. Rinse and dry with cotton towel. |

My wife had a reaction to her DJ when she first got it - happened the second week of ownership. After a few more weeks the reaction stopped. Congrats on your new toy.
The white is the right choice IMHO... saw a guy wearing one at an Apple store a few months ago and got this weird must have feeling. Argh.
