Traveling to NYC for Rolex #118238
Hello,
I will be traveling to New York next month, Dec.11-16 in search of a gold Rolex Day Date 118238 with champagne dial for under $13K. I am doing so because I live in Alabama and my options are limited. I also do not know who to trust online to purchase from. A friend of mine suggested Benny's Jewelry in Jamaica, NY and also jewlery stores on 47th street (which I have read mixed reviews about). This will be my first Rolex purchase and I want to feel comfortable with the purchase and transaction. Does anyone have any feedback or suggestions for me to steer me in the right direction? Any feedback is appreciated. Anthony |

Tough price point for anything in good shape, box and papers that's been recently serviced. You might want to look at increasing your budget and buying on TRF.

I cannot recommend anyone in NY. There are many good sellers on here. Good luck in your hunt, and welcome to TRF!

I would feel better buying from a trusted seller here then going to NY. Plus they will ship it to you so no tax. Search out the very trusted ones here and you can feel safe.
Best of luck in your hunt. |

I live in New York City, and I buy my watches right here on TRF.
I know that's not a fun answer, sorry. |

At your price point, you are going to be looking a pretty rough "well used" examples.. Stretch to $16000+ and you're into better quality pre-owned. Dino

Without a doubt this, saves you a trip to NY and most probably a better watch for the budget

As others have said, stick with TRF for buying. But don't skip the trip, it's a great city and December is a very festive month in NYC!

47th street is an adventure. It's like the red light district but with jewelry =)
Jamaica queens... My advice, try not to walk around w a gold Rolex. As others have said - check the forum for the watch you want. Get it. Then come to NYC for a vacation. It's beautiful for the holidays. |

I would contact some sellers here who might know of a piece you are looking for. Any increase in your budget will get you a much better piece condition wise.

I think you may be asking for more than you intend to bargain for.
If this is indeed your first Rolex purchase, seeking out a used precious metal model like a DD in NYC for a "cheap" price would not be advisable. Do extensive research here. Learn what to look for. Scour the prices here - if only to gauge what's realistic. Then you will be more informed. |

Your trip will end badly if you do what you have planned, unless you get lucky.

You're a solid $4k off, but that's been addressed.

OP, all kidding aside--a NYC AD or a TRF trusted seller transaction would either way provide you a smoother, safer transaction. You can fit both a fun Holiday season vacation to NYC and a nice first Rolex in your budget... But trying to do everything you propose at that price is not advisable. |

Jamaica Queens? That neighborhood is a abomination. Listen, only thing near Jamaica Queens that is of reliability, is Lorilil Jewelers, and they are in Forest Hills, a fewminutes drive away from Jamaica. LJ is a AD. Otherwise... stay away!

A 118238 will be tough at that price point, but last I looked there were some nice 18238's for sale here. Any of our trusted sellers would be good to buy from. I understand how that might be scary, but I feel exactly that way about going to NYC to look for one. As mentioned above I agree, and strongly suggest you try to let it cool a little, get comfortable here, and buy from here. I've done it more than once now, just last week in fact, and I could not be happier.

Thank you all for your feedback. I was already going to NY next month to visit friends and we hoping to find the rolex while there.
I looked in the Classifieds here but only saw one 118238 listing that matched what I was looking for. I was hoping to stay around $13K but may have to change that like you all said. Does anyone here have experience with purchasing from Sant Blanc online? Thank you all for your feedback. Anthony |

I would look up Trusted seller Elitetime here in the seller section, they have office in NY and you can look at it before buying if you contact them before hand.

I live in a small town and only see Rolex shops when I travel. I usually use the time in cities to try things on and see how they are in person so I know what to buy later. NYC has a high tax so there is that to contend with.
Lastly you might consider a 18238 as nice examples are closer to your price-point for a gold president. |

You're just not going to find the specific model you're looking for in your price range. You'll have to a little older. |

I think many have stated the obvious enough. I live in NY and minutes from NYC and I still recently bought a Rolex from a "trusted seller" here on TRF. Trust me, anyone will spot you from a mile away.

Alternatively, you could just reach out to one of the trusted sellers here and see what they've either got or coming in. Good luck. |

As you all can see, I'm new to the forum.
Does anyone mind giving me the names of some trusted sellers here on the forum? Thanks again |
