Cut my link out
Hey All, I decided to take a chance and cut a link out on the six o clock side since the clasp was not centered on my wrist.I used a high speed cutting tool(Dremel) and it worked out great even though it ruined the link.I now have 31/2 links on the six o clock side and 41/2 on the other( very skinny wrist). Thanks for listening , Peter

Will I sound stupid if I wonder why your AD couldn't have just removed the link for you?

He didn't make a 1/2 link. He removed one of the "non-removable" links on the 6 o'clock side and attached the 1/2 link to it. This is "fairly" common for SD to center the clasps for people with 6 3/4" or smaller wrists.

I would have opted to go to an AD and get it "resized". I'm glad you didn't slip and bung up the entire bracelet. Much like a buddy of mine who wanted to customize the stock of his new shotgun. He said, "first you get a rasp". Ugh!! Stuff like this is better left to the pros IMO.

This is a bit drastic isn't it just to centre the clasp!!! My clasp isn't centred but I don't think I'd go this far to get it so. Blimey!

Thanks for all the feedback( I think ).I was fairly confident that I could do it.Agreed,it was risky but I have a steady hand and did not tell my wife until the operation was a success. Thanks, Peter

I'm still trying to figure this out - after removing all links that can be removed with a screw, and making the clasp as tight as possible, it was STILL too small, and hence you had to remove an extra half link? What is your wrist size? I am seeing famous women in another thread who are successfully wearing Rolex sport watches, and they are petite.

I actually once knew a guy who did his own vasectomy. He was an Army nurse attached to an infantry unit, but his previous assignment was in a urology clinic. All of the grunts gave him grief about being a nurse (white caps, stockings, etc), but after he did his own vasectomy with a mirror he was widely respected. |

For those wondering... this is not that uncommon. If you remove all the removable link for small wrists, the clasp is positioned in a way that cuts into the side of the wrist. The way to rectify this is to remove a permanent link like Peter has done and try to re-center the clasp. I've seen a few watchmakers do this to their own personal watches to make it fit properly.

Peter, could you have just pulled the link out with a couple of pliers instead of cutting it? I think our fellow forums member "Tools" demonstrated how this can be done. |
