Thoughts on this rolex

Hi everyone, Im new to vintage watches and am keen to get one for my birthday. The missus is treating me (with some personal savings) Im keen on the daydate 1803 with a leather strap.

I have seen this one on Chrono24 and would really appreciate an expert to have a look at the pictures and advise on condition and price.

Is there anything I should be looking out for in particular?

Many thanks all,

Luke

Well first that watch did not have a strap when it was new it would of had a solid gold bracelet. So its a gold watch head only and day complication wheel in in German and quite expensive.

Luke - have a word with Dane at http://www.dream-watches.co.uk/
to see if he can get you what you want. He's not to far from you (only in Portsmouth). I just bought my first rolex through him and it was a super smooth transaction. I bought over the net , but he does have a shop if you want to see the watch first.

I would buy one with a president bracelet in good condition. The combination of this watch head with the bracelet is yet to be surpassed.

There are much better deals to be had on 1803 heads, bracelets, or combination. My head which was recently serviced cost me $3700, my bracelet was $3000. The combination of the two isn't too much above what the seller is after for the head alone. I would say it's not a very good deal. I consider mine reasonable but I've also seen pairs auctioned for not to much more than what I paid. It's difficult to find decent deals on 1803s but they are out there if you look and take your time. Do you really want one with the day in German?

The day wheel could be changed to English if you must have this watch, but as others have said you can probably do better...
