Happy St. Georges Day.....

.... to all my fellow Englishmen.

And it's also the Bards birthday. Double celebration.

Carolina, the 23rd April is St. Georges Day. St. George is the patron Saint of England (and a few other Countries ).

Unfortunately it's not a holiday here as the British Government HATE anything English.
However there is a growing lobby here wanting to make this date a National holiday.

Its also the birth date of William Shakespeare of whome i hope you've heard.

Enough thumbs!!!

Ah, thank you! Funny, I went to mass this evening, and found that today was the feast day of..... St. George! Now, for a really ignorant question -- what is the difference between "British" and "English"?? Just wondering about your comment about the British gov't hating all things English.

BTW, happy St. Georges day!

British is a term that covers English, Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish. Each have their own Parliaments.
The only problem is that the English Parliament is run by Scottish MP's and Ministers, who all hate England and the English. A very confusing system that even we dont understand.

It all worked just fine for hundreds of years, before the current labour Government ripped up the old system.

Quite so. Except there is no English Parliament. Its the Britsh Parliament that is run by Scottish MPs.

Very interesting - thank you! I agree, sounds like a mess.

For some strange reason, I've always thought Britain and England to be synonomous. I never was an ace at history and geography, anyway.
