Pam 000 / 111?

I'm sure that this question has been asked before countless times before, but I'm in that position right now, and I'm having some trouble trying to decide between the two. I love the OP logo on the 000, but prefer the sandwich dial on the 111. I personally don't need a clear caseback, but it would be a plus since I recently purchased a macro lens, and the 111 would allow me to attempt some detailed shots.

Anyone have any thoughts/comments on this? Or any suggestions? I'm looking to buy a used one, as this will be a transitional watch as I aim for my grail.

AFAIK, there are no logo + sandwhich dials, so, you need to decide for yourself which feature is the most important. personally, i prefer sausage (painted) dials on luminors, so, i would either go 000 (actually, 005 if i wanted the logo, since i like having the seconds hand, too) or 111G.

I was faced with the same dilemma a while back, I went with the logo and love it!

I'd do the 111. You'll always be thinking 'what if it had a sandwich dial?"

I'm biased because I own one, but the 111 for the second hand. I'm also not a fan of the logo on the dial. Good luck!

Both have Their attributes.

Macro lens in a eta movement ... not much to see there... I prefer to hide it with steel case back.
Workhorse and reliable but certainly No looker.

Sandwich vs sausage... Imho the more developed palet will choose sausage for its contrast vs the sandwich that can sometimes not let the details shine.

As far as a choice between the two, the only question again imho is would you prefer a second hand or not ? Both are fantastic choices in the brand.

My choice would be a gently used 111G vis-a-vis sausage dial with a more historically correct beefier crown guard!

Used to own a 111 and 176, the 111 or logo are both great.

My 111 was a G Serial which had the painted dial, I personally like them better.

Wow, thank you for the feedback, guys. After seeing some of your pics, I think I'm now swaying between a 000, and an older series 111 (with painted dial). I like sandwich, but I think I like sausage just a wee bit more

I guess the problem now is just:
1) finding a watch up for sale
2) insane exchange rate (I'm located in Malaysia, and the ringgit has just depreciated!)

But thanks for sharing your opinions guys. I'd love to see more pics of your 000/111 :-)

You know what? I've just realized that I'm still swaying between the two models

The choice is difficult but 1 point worth considering is the 000 is still available brand new. It is also expected to be phased out at some point because the ETA movement supply will not last forever.

i picked the 000 myself. sausage and logo combo is great to start with. but the next thing you will want is a sandwich, then a 1950s case, then a rad. go straight for the grail if you have one.

Another sausage dial fan. I think the Radiomirs look better in Sandwich and the Luminors in fat paint.

All, I've come across a 111C. Can anyone shed some light if there are any differences between a 111C and a 111G? Afaik, the difference is the year of manufacture... and going by the comments above, also size of crown guard? Is there anything else I might potentially be missing?

There is no such thing as a 111c.

There was a 1c. Solid back and painted dial with smaller crown guard.

I'd go with 005, you get the logo and the second hand.

My bad; it is indeed a 1c. Seller says it was last serviced in June 2014, with service receipts, but the pictures he's sent to me just don't look appealing. Perhaps it is just the quality of pictures. I've also not been lucky enough to run into a 111g.

I have whittled down my options to 3 watches, all that come complete with boxes and papers:
1. PAM 000 L - not yet serviced, seller rates watch at 90%
2. PAM 000 M - not yet serviced, seller rates watch at 95%
3. PAM 001 C - serviced in June 2014, seller rates watch at 80%

All three have pretty similar price tags. How much would a regular service cost, and given the options above, which would be your pick? I know I've been asking countless questions, and I value all the responses in here.

There is no wrong answer here. Sandwich is great, painted is great, zero is great, one is great, 111 is great.

232 is best! ;-)

sandwich dial for me. I get so bored of the sausage dials even though the logo is a nice one, I prefer to have the depth of the sandwich dial.

Thank you for this information.

And to everyone else who contributed their thoughts and comments... thank you! I have made up my mind, I have pulled the trigger and I'm looking forward to the arrival.

Instead of buying from a dealer here in Malaysia (3 hours drive away), I have decided to get it from a TRF member (located 9,572 miles / 15,400km away) instead. Why? Call me an oddball, but I liked the fact that the watch had a story, and that I would be able to progress that story. I liked that it had depth, if that made sense.
