Chinese Rolex owners - serial numbers
Do Chinese watches come stamped with 888?
I have a watch in my collection stamped with the sequence 888, or is this just a coincidence? |

Well, 8 is a lucky #in Chinese culture. And the Rolex country code for Hong Kong is 888.
But that could even be coincidence too. Unless someone from the inside cares to enlighten us. -GW |

I'm not on the inside, but I think I will go out on a limb and say Hong Kong's Rolex code is not a coincidence or by chance. That would be very un-Rolex of Rolex.

That...is a coincidence. A good one mind you, if you're Asian and superstitious. And if you're not, I bet if you ever went to sell it, you could fetch a premium above market for that simple coincidence.

In conversations with my AD, he has told me that many of his Chinese clients pass on watches with "unlucky" numbers such as a 4. Personally, I could care less.
