curious if there's any interest in
the board posting or maintaining a list of ebay sellers (or maybe all sellers) where folks could report good experiences
i know this may sound a little crazy, but i have bought off ebay, inspite of the fact that 80% of the items there (if not more) is questionable at best, with a good deal being outright junk but when i've bought off evilbay, it's either been a low level purchase where i'm taken a calculated risk, like the $388 tudor with a 390 movement to a fairly high end tudor, out of hong kong of all places. By the way, before making that purchase, in case this tip helps others, i reviewed seller's feedback real carefully. While he had a 800+ feedback with a 99.6% rating, i've seen too many, even higher rated sellers, selling obvious counterfeit junk But in reviewing his feedback i noticed quite a few were high end $2000 to $9700 watches (90% of his sales were watches). so i contacted thru the evilbay system, those buyers to see if their current impression of the purchase was still in line with what they had posted, and told them i had some concern as the seller only accepted bankwire pmt. Within 14 hours two responded with a thumbs up, and this morning, the 3rd buyer (of the $9700 watch) responded identical positive referral on the seller. So that gives me more of a "warm and fuzzy" on the guy. But my last control, was in talking to him - yeah, i know it sounds a little intense, but i can usually tell a lot from how someone responds, ie if there's any arrogance, aloofness, lack of courtesy, lack of patience (i will play stupid sometimes, actually it's not that hard for me to do!) His demeanor, attitude etc in the conversation made me pretty comfortable - i learned a long time ago in real estate, someone that's rude or indifferent to you BEFORE he's gotten your money, isn't going to improve after he has it. the above might give a few of you some ideas helpful in "vetting" a seller but back to point - does the idea of a list of evilbay sellers that are decent to deal with? and for the record, i've made two purchases from "johnnywatch" in HK in the past two years, and the guy's solid - the name is a little hokey but that's .... curious to see folks' thoughts on this |

MrC,
From a forum perspective we are not going to get into endorsing, or even giving the impression that we endorse a seller or vendor. We just don't want any member to blame the "Forum" for getting a bad deal, or even a perceived bad deal. We do have a forum board called 'WatchOut". On this board any vendor or seller can be discussed and feedback can be had from other members who may have had experience. You could also "search" the board for feedback and post a picture of the prospective purchase for members to view and comment..
