Should I sell my Panerai?

Greetings everyone!!

A few months ago my dad gave me first expensive watch (Who got it as a gift a few years ago). Panerai PAM 114. I've never owned an expensive watch before (except for an Omega Seamaster, which I sold). I liked Audemars Piguet but their prices are insane for me. In the short term, I hope to buy a Rolex Datejust.

Now back to the Panerai. I did some research and found that it is a good watch. It's really nice looking, but I don't feel that it fits me as a guy in my early 20s.

Now what I was thinking is selling it and buying a Datejust or putting some more money for an Audemars Piguet. But as I have no experience with Panerai I hoped to get some insight from Panerai fans.

How much should I sell it for? I have no box or papers, but I'm sure it's %100 authentic.

Where is the best place to sell it? I know eBay could be good. They'd take a %13 and there is this "buyer protection", which from my understanding is very harmful for a seller without a established reputation. I heard of this Chrono24 website but I don't know...

I took the watch to store in New England that offered me $2000. I feel that's not that much..

Any ideas or advices will be really helpful!

I lost my passion for panerai but I do strongly believe 2000$ is an insanely bad price they could just as well rob you find somewhere that can give you a better price (Y)

Privately you can probably get more around the $3000-3500 range if there's demand for this model (I don't know if there is). But with an MSRP of $6600, pre-owned ones listing for $3900-5000 on Chrono24 and no boxes/papers, that would seem to be a reasonable starting point.

Depending on your overall financial situation, I think Panerai's make great weekend type watches and if you can only get around $2000 for it, I'd consider keeping it and saving for your Datejust.

That's a low-ball offer. Either sell it privately or keep it (it's a nice watch)

I think the Panerai is more appropriate for a guy in his 20's than a Datejust.

Do you not like the 44mm size or just the overall look? The Datejust (36mm) is dressier and appears older to me.

I concur, the 113 is a very simple, youthful watch. The white dial gives it a different look than most PAMs.

The offer seems pretty lowball to me. Selling to a dealer or trading in usually results in a lower price than selling outright, but sometimes the convenience wins out, much like with buying a car. My experience is for a current watch in excellent shape with all boxes and papers the dealer will offer approx 50% of retail, then try to sell it for 60-70% of retail.

If you like the 113, keep it and save for the Rolex.

Ok....some thoughts on your situation.

1) You have a PAM114, but your screen name is PAM113? That is confusing.

2) You are 100% right in wanting to sell the panerai and MOVE into a Rolex or save to an AP. Absolutely the RIGHT MOVE.

3) The $2000 offer is not as bad as it sounds. The market for panerai is extremely SOFT and becoming SOFTER, especially on ETA white dial models (which were never popular to begin with), since the new 8 day models are out. Plus the watch has no box and papers, and you're selling it someone who has to resell it for a profit. Private sale would max out at $2800.....maybe $3000 if you're very lucky. But is it worth your time and fraud risk to go private sale? Up to you...

Good Luck and enjoy your quality AP or Rolex!

Had me confused too but maybe PAM114 was taken.

No argument from me here other than the idea of a weekend type watch. As others have mentioned, I think it is a very appropriate brand for the OPs age. Since selling is being mentioned I assume there is no sentimental value.

Spot on again. You pay for convenience and bundling two transactions into one. Then the dealer assumes all risk of selling it.

I like both brands and own both brands, but no way I'd flip a 113 for a DJ, and I'm almost double 20.

Especially if it's a gift from dad.

If it's real I'll give you $2000 for it. But, of course, you're not THAT stupid!

Your Dad gave you it so please don't sell it as you may ultimately regret that decision.

I wouldn't sell it just yet.. imho as it was given by your dad and secondly if you would replace it with a rolex datejust because your reason is you are in your 20s. In my area I saw relatively old people wearing datejusts and the younger ones wearing Pams.. so the trend here is datejusts for old folks, Pams for younger folks.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts!

I honestly like the size (44mm) but it's just that the dial is too simple. I'll list it on eBay and see, if it gets me +$3000 Ill sell it. Otherwise I'll keep it.
