Panerai newbie looking for 1st model
I've been looking at them for some time & I think I want one. If I do get one it will be preowned.
My dilemma there seems to be way too many different models. I've been looking at titanium models with brush bezels. Since I don't own any titanium watches I also like how titanium seems to be a little more grey than SS. I'm not opposed to a SS model as long as it were all brushed. I know I don't want a date model with the cyclops. Basicly school me or point me in the right direction to school myself!! Thanks in advance

Go for a Ti base model. If you want a classic pam 176 or 177 would be a good choice if your stuck on the titanium. If you go for the steel you need a Zero or a a Fiver and you'll be on your way. Happy Hunting

Pam 111
Is very popular. The back is display and very cool looking. The 510 is the 111's newer in house version with an eight day reserve. I like SS over TI because it is shiny and light scratches can be buffed out if desired.
After re-thinking this question, I would get the new 510 8 day luminor. |

Is there a model similar to the 111 that only has less polish on it. Possibly just a polished bezel?

I think the 177 is what will tic your boxes. It's ti, has small seconds. It's manual wind. (eta movement)
Otherwise, there's the 312, brushed case, polished bezel. Date window, (no cyclops) and has seconds hand. It's 1950s style case, which means it's a bit thicker than the 111,176, 177, 000, etc. But also is automatic with in-house 3 day movement. Not sure what your budget is or if buying new or preowned. That might open up some other models, like the 233. Manual 8 day wind 44mm, brushed case, polished bezel, 1950s case but slimmer due to manual movement, domed crystal, and sandwich dial. Here's mine:

You have some good suggestions already. I was like you when I was looking for my first PAM, and I came to realize that the Ti was a bit dull for me, so, I wanted the brightness of SS without the shine of polished SS. That was one of the main things that steered me to the brushed case of the 164 (along with the quick strap change system, but, it has a date and cyclops, which you say you don't want).
If you want Ti, also consider the 118 (similar to 177, but with chocolate dial that looks great with Ti) or 564 (in-house 8-day replacement for 177, also with chocolate dial). Happy hunting! |

Have a a look at the 351, 514 or 422. They would be my choices as a first and only PAM. The latter two are steel though.

Take a look at the 562 & 564 with the in-house movement. Any base dial are nice. eTA or P-. Panerai is a very different type of watch and base dial gets the most votes. 8days or hand wounded are better as well.
