Real, Fake, or Doctored? Vintage 1966 Rolex Oyster Precision 6426

Hello,

I'm new here and would like some more knowledgeable insights into the authenticity of this watch. I know there's only so much you can do from a few photos, but can anyone please tell me if there's some glaring, conspicuous problems with this watch?

I know the strap is not authentic, that doesn't bother me. I'm just wondering about the actual watch itself.

It purports to be a Rolex Oyster Precision Ref: 6426, with a serial number in the 2.033,000s, which I believe places it from around 1966. The movement listed is #4367 and the calibration is #1225.

I think it's a nice looking watch, in any event, but I'm new to the scene and would like some more experienced opinions.

Thank you very much. Looking forward to being a member of this community!

Unless it is very cheap I would walk away. The spotting on the dial is horrible and is more than a patina.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for posting your thoughts, I appreciate it. It's not terribly expensive, so I am looking at it and I do like it.

May I ask, does your observation about the dial speak to it's authenticity or condition? Do you think it's genuine based on the pics and in dubious condition, or do you think it is not authentic?

Best,

Sam

I believe for a Vintage Rolex, it's more valuable for the entire piece to be original as it came. The strap, if authentic, didn't come with the Rolex originally. So if this was a Rolex version of Shark Tank... then I'd say I'm out.

There's no doubt that the strap isn't an authentic one from Rolex. While I agree with you and strongly prefer the watch to have its original bracelet, it's not a dealbreaker for me, especially for a watch like this one which I can get for relatively cheap and I'd put on a lizard skin strap and put it in my everyday watch rotation.

Thanks for responding!

Looks ok to me for its age....late 60s. I wouldn't go higher than $1.3k though.

Looks ok to me too, but it's hard to tell what's original and what's not. If you love it, and you're price strapped, go cheap; otherwise, there are many fish in the sea and the hunt for a great one is much of the fun. I'm also highly preferential to box and papers, though super hard to find in this vintage.

Yes, I have grown increasingly fond of box and papers, too. I think if the price s right, I may go with this as part of my regular rotation of watches. Thanks for posting!
