Decisions, decisions
My amazing wife is taking me to the AD tomorrow to find my next piece. Decision time. Do I go for the 39mm Explorer I or SubC ND???
I currently have a birth year 1680 Sub, Speedy Pro, and Seamaster. I've been looking at the Exp I for a while, but have recently been eyeing the SubC ND. Now I can't decide. The third option would trade/sell my 1680 and Seamaster and go for a new SD4000. I need a little help from my TRF brothers. |

Sub ND, and I own the Explorer. I had the ND and miss it. I still adore my Explorer, but the gridlock is where its at.

You've got a great wife, congrats.
I'm just over a month in to owning my 114060 SubC. I will admit that the first couple of weeks or so I was not sold, as I couldn't seem to get the right fit with this watch on my 7" wrist, so much so that it was not very comfortable to wear at all. I took it back yet again to the AD after getting a tip on sizing it from a very helpful TRF member and it fits so well now. I'm a bit biased towards the look of the SS sub, meaning there probably isn't a Rolex model that I like quite as much. That's why I kept trying to get a good fit on this beautiful piece. I'd even consider picking up a pre-ceramic date version, just because I feel the SubC and its predecessor are two totally different but fantastic looking watches that are not redundant in a collection. Anyway, back to your original question....I actually tried on a new 39mm Exp for the first time today. It's a great looking watch, seemed very comfortable (even though not properly sized) and would for certain go well with anything from a swimsuit to a tux. But it didn't stand out to me in the same way that the 114060 does and did the first time I tried one on. Go with the SubC, you won't regret it.

Go with a Rolex Submariner.
Rolex doesn't make a SubC ND. |

Thanks! She's definitely a keeper!
What's always drawn me to the Exp I is its simplicity, and versatility. I tried on HairDude's at a GTG and fell in love. What's funny is I don't like the SubC date because of the proportions of the case, especially lug to bracelet transition. However, I don't notice it as much on the ND. Must be an optical illusion. The SD4000 could be an option, but I'd have to sell off some pieces. Drakulie, right, I mean the Submariner 114060. |

I love both and wear them equally. If I had to choose between them....It would be the Sub 114060, just because I am a diver guy. However, if you don't dive and like them both....the Exp I is so comfortable on the wrist...what can I tell you.

I'd vote for the Sub as well, but try them on and see which speaks to you. Good luck deciding and please post wrist shots of the winner!

A lot of folks, including me, think they know exactly what model Rolex they want, then they go to the AD and try it on, and they don't like it as much anymore. Maybe their initial choice number 2 or 3 wins their heart when on the wrist. Maybe a model you never considered will have that effect. My advice--go try on a few with an open mind and see what happens. Doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks.
