Prospective Datejust Buyer
I have located and am considering the purchase of a TT Datejust and have a couple of questions. According to the Rolex Report this watch if produced after 2000 would have a 6 digit model number. The watch I am looking at is a 16233 confirmed by the hologram on the back of the case. The serial prefix is a "Y" which is a 2002? These contradict each other, is there something I am overlooking? This watch appears to be in excellent condition, if it is a 2002 model is there an appropriate price point for this watch? The watch has a factory diamond dial. This is my first rolex, I want to do it correctly. Thank you

Welcome to TRF!
The six digit model numbers for the DJ did first appear with the introduction of the new DJ style in 2004, so the 2002 example having only 5 digit model number would be right. The new Daytonas, however, introduced in 2000, did get a six digit model ref. # (for instance "116520").

Here are a couple of photos. With Y32 being the first 3 of the serial number this is a 2002 model correct? This watch does have papers and box, any thoughts on an appropriate price range? Thank you for your time.

That's a good looking watch.
A "Y" model was manufactured from 2002 through 2004, so that is the manufacture range. You say it has papers, so whatever date is stamped on the paper would be the "date" of the watch, and that could be even later depending on shipping and stocking.. An intact hologram would indicate the watch has not been worn,(or it was replaced which is no-no). Rolex did change the hologram style around 2000 or 2002 A thorough examination should tell you. A late model "Y" may also have the etched crown on the crystal...

id have to say that the sticker was either replaced or the watch not worn. from the bracelet it looks in very good shape.
I recently saw one watch that had the "116233" rubbed and that watch was definitely not worn. so i have my questions as to that sticker. sticker issue apart, I think it looks quite good and would want to open up the baby to check further

Very nice looking watch.
See you are in Tacoma, cool! TT DJs do not hold very good re-sale. Plus the fact you are buying the one with the older bracelet/case. Diamonds do no add much inthe way of resale, although they are expenive when you buy a watch new. I sold my Y SN TT DJ a year ago, it had a TT oyster bracelet and no diamonds but boxes al ALL papers and sold it for $2850.00, you figure for an upgrade to a jubilee band, diamonds, B&P, and pristine condition. I'd say around 3500.00-4500 is a fair price, IMHO. But listen to what others think too as I may be off. Good luck. |

I love DJ's. Personally, I like the older clasp on the band for the men's models. |
