Opinions on Keeping or Trading Panerai for Rolex
Hi All,
Need some opinions from more avid watch collectors. My current collection is a SS Daytona, Panerai 00111 and a Shinola (Daily wearer, fun watch). I have come to the realization that i dont wear the Panerai very often. At most, 1 day a week. There are some things that i thought i liked about it, that i dont care for anymore as time has gone on. The Daytona is a daytona and it was purchased for a special occasion, so i will never get rid of it. I was looking for another daily watch and was considering trading the Panerai in on something more for everyday. Some of the watches i was considering was a Submariner, Sea-Dweller or even a Yachtmaster. Something that goes with almost everything and more versatile. With that said, is it worth keeping the Panerai and just getting something additional (given it would mean the Panerai would get even less wrist time), or trading it in putting it towards something better? Budget is right around $3K USD, so i could get alot more watch if i trade the Panerai in. I know some people collect watches and dont think about how often they are worn, and some people only keep what they wear often. Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated. |

Trade it if you aren't going to wear it.

I went through a similar thing with Breitling and Omega, things I used to love about those watches I didn't so much as time passed, so I would trade it for a subc or SDc, watches ought to be worn, that is their primary tool.

not sure if a 111 is going to get you to a sub with 3 k cash. unless its a pre owned non ceramic. Think you could just add the rolex. I cant imagine not owning a pam. Such a cool watch.

I was in the same boat, in the end I kept the 111.
In your case, I suggest loosing the 111 and go for the BLNR. There you have a nice little collection.

Time to move on. I'd put it towards a Sub or SD.

I'd rather have something to wear then have the money tied up in the PAM.

If you think there might be a chance the love will return for the PAM, you could get a nice Tudor diver, say a BB or Pelagos for around your budget. But if the love is gone, I would trade it toward something you will wear (and love, of course!).

Trade it. As time goes on that Panerai is going to become less and less valuable. They're already starting to take a hit in the market.

I love the look of the watch and the attention it gets from other watch lovers, but i am no longer a fan of the manual winding of the watch, especially when i dont wear it much.
More and more i feel the 44MM size is alittle big for my wrist for everyday use. I am planning a pre-owned Rolex, so thats where i was thinking the Panerai + $3K could get me into a Sub or SD. |

I would definitely trade the PAM. You can get $4k or so from the Pam, and then the other $3k you have can get you a nice used Submariner.

I'd flip it. Or gift it to someone well deserving. I chose to gift my Oris than lose my ass on selling it.

I almost bought a Panerai, but after trying it on I felt like I was just following the crowd. It was too large and not my style. I did end up with one because a cycling teammate gave me one as a gift, but I think I wore it two or three times. I find it difficult to part with gifts with meaning to them.

I was on the Panerai kick for awhile, flipped from one to another for about three years. I got used to having a bigger watch on my wrist (was a sub wearer for many years prior to). A little over a year ago I tried on a deep sea and realized I now had toe best of both worlds. Bigger watch, great "wrist presence" and a superior machine. When the D-Blue was released, the deal was sealed; great presence, solid, durable movement, second to none engineering and now, a unique dial with some historical relevance

I had multiple Panerai's a while back.
Worn it sparingly, pretty much lost interest on them. Sold all my Panerai and stayed with the true legend. I never look back, no regrets at all. I don't miss it at all. So happy with my current collection. I don't think I'll buy anymore Panerai in this lifetime. Go for the SD if you like a big watch. Good Luck with the hunt.

I personally love Panerai but if you are not wearing it, it's too much money to keep in the watch box!

Buy-bye, Panerai! I had an 005 that I did not wear much. I have a small to average wrist and it was too big on me. I traded it towards a Cartier Tank MC, which I enjoy more.
I never used to flip. Now I am open to it. |

Trade or sell it towards a Rolex. You won't regret it |
