Datejust 16013 Tech Question

I recently noticed my Datejust was fogging up in the cold weather. I dropped it off at my watch guy. He said it needs gaskets, and a waterproof crown. What is a waterproof crown? Is it going to hurt the value of my watch to have this new crown? Thanks!

The watch had a waterproof crown to begin with, he's probably just replacing it because the old one wasn't waterproof anymore!
