Jos is in town

I finally met Jos today at the Apple Store on 5th Avenue where we agreed to meet! Really nice guy! We start the New York tour at the Apple Store, which he found to be fabulous. In the store Jos spotted a couple of Rolexes and as we left the Store we saw a red Sub (no, we didn't have anything better to do other than check other people's wrist). We tried to communicate with each other on the way to Tiffany but we kept interrupting each other so we could check the wrists of everybody who crossed our ways. At Tiffany we found out that the store wouldn’t be open until 12:00 PM so we went to Sony store to check the technology over there. Our third stop was Tourneau store, Jos was impressed with the store and he really had a nice time there. Next stop was Patek Phillipe at Tiffany. Of all the places we went Tiffany was the best, we were treated with a lot of respect. Even though we didn't buy anything, Tiffany was class A+++++++. Before we went to the Patek Salon we check some Tiffany watches. Nice watches but very expensive, price tag start at $45,000.00 to $125,000.00. The salesman was very nice and had no problem taking the watches out and showing it to us. Jos felt in love with the Tiffany Minute Repeater priced at $125,000.00. Even tough Jos didn’t buy the watch the salesman gave us two bags so we could carry the magazine we got from Tourneau. At Patek Phillipe Salon we spent about 1 hour talking to the sales person about Patek and other brands and we just felt like home. The experience was great; if I ever buy a Patek I will certainly buy it at Tiffany. BTW I found out that the salesman I met at the Patek Salon two weeks ago bought a Rolex GMT IIC after he saw mine. I was glad to know that my Rollie motivated him to buy one. The next stop was at Saks Fifth Avenue. Then, I brought him home to meet my family and have lunch together. It was really nice meeting somebody from TRF, we had a lot of fun! Jos took a lot of pics and I’m sure he’ll post them soon.

Hamilton, you are a gracious host. I'm sure most of the TRF'ers here on the site would do likewise for a fellow member -- perhaps not to that degree, but with the same amount of friendship and class nonetheless. I know I would!

Hamilton: thanks for treating our friend and fellow TRF'er so well!Jos and I are trying to set up a meeting in which we go to a jewelers and experience the Ball Watch Museum Tour. Most likely date and time(this is fluid) is Saturday, May 17 at around 10:00 a.m. There's likely to be a speech from the President of the Ball Watch Company and perhaps other luminaries as well. Unfortunately it would appear we can't make the Friday night wine/beer/and cheese bash with the press, and watch magazine reps; but we're stuck with Jos' schedule. We're still working on this. Anyone want to join us?? Excerpt from the email sent from the Jewelry store helping to host this event is below.
best,
dan

Ball Watch Museum Tour Visits Baltimore

You are invited to attend a landmark horological event to take place May 15-17. For the first time the Ball Watch Museum Tour will visit Baltimore. On May 15, America's premier railroad watch will be feted at the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum, the Home of American Railroading. On May 16-17, the event continues at Little Treasury Jewelers, in Gambrills, the only authorized Ball Watch dealer in Maryland. Plan on attending both the B&O event and the Little Treasury in-store event as they will each feature different aspects of the Ball Watch legacy.

What a marvellous gesture, Hamilton - I'm sure that you both had a great day.

As Tony has said, you're the one to look up when in New York.

Welcome Dan! Keep in mind that Jos has a serious problem Bro. He likes to chase wrists. Ops! Wait a minute, I think I have the same problem. Seriously, have fun, we had a great time yesterday.
I wish I could join you guys.

Hamilton! What a guy!!!

Hey Gang!!

Yep, that's right...I'm in New York!!! I wake up every morning and ask myself "Where am I??" "Yes, that's right...in NEW YORK!!!" Being my first overseas trip, it's a very big thing for me. And meeting Hamilton on Sunday has been the hightlight of my trip so far! No kidding, my skin is still tingling from all he showed me.

What a kind, generous and considerate host he was He made a point of welcoming me as soon as he had my tel. no!! Minutes after my PM to him.

He met me on Sunday at the Apple Store on 5th Avenue (what a store!!! It's a glass cube!) and had obviously put so much thought and consideration into our meeting. After waiting patiently for me to commute uptown after about an hour, he proceeded to show me a veritable WHAT'S WHAT of WHERE"S WHERE in the savvy Uptown area of the city!! We were like kids in a candy store, or tourists on safari. Wrist-watching, watch-spottin, AD harrassing, arbitrary asking WIS's on the Town!!! When he pulled out his magnifying glass to inspect the 6 plot of my GMT IIc on the corner of 5th Ave. and some other street, we attracted quite a few strange glances Pssh, Philistines!

I will be starting a thread detailing it all when I have time to post pictures and have my own internet connection. But you guys will hear and see it all!

Tourneau Rolexes, Wempe's selection, Saks on 5th, and of course the hightlight...Tiffany's!!

I will try to do justice to the $45,000 Tiffany Chrono (1 of 8) and the $60,000 Tiffany Minute Repeater. But I will probably fail. I will most definitely fail at describing our experience and warm welcome and hearty conversation with the two most knowlegable dealers in the Patek Phillipe Salon, on Tiffany Mezzanine Level. One of four in the world, it has been appointed in the most opulent and lavish wood finishings (I'm trying to say that even the walls are wood) I have ever seen. It's all in the details with these guys. Pocket watches from 1867 the size of a dime!! Ohh let me stop, and just say it has to be seen to be believed.

As for Mr. Carvalho, what is there to say but he is a man amongst men. Gracious, gentle, kind. A good man and loving father. A gem. I am humbled.

Stay tuned...

Fantastic time you two must be having!

You two also might want to check out the Rolex forums on Timezone, because there is a big Rolex get-together this Saturday in NYC.
