In the flesh

Whilst in Brisbane (Capital city of Queensland for my American Cousins) I took the opportunity to rub my oily nose all over the window of the Rolex AD.
I didn't go in as I have no intention of ever buying a watch from them and I would feel guilty wasting their time.
I saw all I wanted to in their windows. They had a display of the new Cellinis which I found very interesting as they are bigger than I imagined and have real 'presence'. I could not decide which version I would buy - I like them all.
They had the Sky-Dweller but they are not my thing.
I was most captivated by a whole display of second-hand models.
I don't like the current Rolex models all that much and any future watches will be vintage models.
They had a gold blue Sub that was gorgeous, a gold-face DD, a Platinum white face Daytona, several TT DJs in both male and female sizes, a SD, a Sub and a Sub Date, plus several others.
What made the biggest impression on me was how beautiful all these models were "in the flesh" as opposed to photos. Photos really don't do them justice. The Daytona in particular looked very nice.
One of the salespeople decided to re-arrange the display whilst I looked at it and was clearly trying to catch my eye but I resisted the temptation to go inside. Second-hand prices would give TRF members a heart-attack.

Rock, did they at least give you a Rolex embroidered cloth to wipe the drool from your face?

Stores have no problem with you going in, even eith zero intent to buy.

They expect it. They do not anticipate every person waking in, to purchase a watch. That is simply not realistic.

All that said, they want you coming in. And they are hoping to convert you into a buyer.

I had zero intent on buying a watch at an Omega boutique recently. I was browsing with my wife to see what she would like.

The staff were so good, and we had such a good time that they converted the heck out of me. We each walked out with a new watch on our wrist. Old watches in the boxes.

No surprise they have already loaded up their second prices with the change in the $. It does make me laugh and thank my stars that I bought my Sub about 3 years back in a NZ AD that had a similar limited selection of preloved models. It had full history with the AD including service (they are the RSC in Auckland) had box and all papers and perfect condition, which with the then currency difference between NZ and $A, along with tax back landed on my wrist for just under A$4K, which now would be around US$3,200!!! The joys of moving currency.

Thankfully I have the buying bug done now. Well maybe an update of wife's Daytona to full gold one day, but that will be an all inside Australia transaction.

That said that Sub started the buying frenzy that led to the current set.

Ha - Tim, my wife (who sat it out on a seat nearby) said the same thing when I had finished drooling. They would have had to clean all their windows again after I left!

SUBversive - yeah - both of those.

John - that would have been mighty unpleasant. I didn't intend to press the schnoz to the glass - just kept happening.

Seth, of course you are right but the Missus was parked outside and if I had gone in it would have been a LONG session.

Wes - there was NO chance they were going to sell me a watch and that would have been painful for ME.

Craig - their pre-loved watches were in top condition and the Daytona and the gold Bluesy really appealed to me. Just the prices nearly caused a Cardiac arrest.
You did well in NZ. I need to just sit it out until the exchange rate is more favourable.

Hopefully the currency will improve before we die!!!!!!!! If only I had changed $1M back 2 years ago and changed it back now.

"Hopefully the currency will improve before we die!"

Made me guffaw. I have been saying this about the interest rates AND the currency.

I'm not that hopeful about either.
