Should I buy a NIB unworn sea dweller 16600?
I have a chance to do this for a little under $7,000. Early 2000s, lug holes, all stickers, coatings, box, papers, etc. I feel like it's probably among the last chances I'll have. I see used ones pretty banged up for mid $5k range, so this seems good to me.
One concern is that if I buy a watch in this condition, I probably shouldn't wear it, which seems like it will be hard to resist. I could save $2k just buying a used one to knock around. Once I wear it, I've taken all of its additional value away. Advice? |

Do it. Figure it will need a service as well but I like your thinking as average ones are going in the mid $5's...

If you have others and you are going to be adding it to a collection do it and keep it in your safe or just wear it "nicely"~ BUT if it's the only one you will have and you need a "WEARER"... either buy this and wear it proudly knowing you are the first proud owner or buy one you will be comfy wearing~ Either or a great opportunity for you~ Good Luck!

Absolutely!
My 16600 was forgotten and left locked in the safe since purchased in 2001. Brand new watch K serial, stickers, papers the works. The fresh box scent filled my room when I took it out. I just got it sized last month, it is consistently running +1s/ day.

plenty of decent ones for $5k and they'll always be worth $5k. over a couple years put aside another $2000 - $3k and you're in BLNR, SS Daytona or DSSD zip code with the used SD as trade. you gotta try them all eventually. |

Do it. And post photos!
I found one in Aus only recently for 8500 AUD. Almost pulled the trigger but got the SD4000 instead for a little bit more. Either way, this is the first watch I have decided to buy and never flip. Looking forward to getting it in my hands soon! |

Thanks, sounds like I will do it if I can get it. The plan here would be not to wear it. How long do you think I will last with that, haha.

I literally just took delivery of a NOS one this morning, sourced in France, totally perfect with stickers and all accessories. I paid about USD 1,300 more than you (admittedly it is a M-serial) and nevertheless I am THRILLED. It is so awesome. Do it.
Attached quick pick on NATO as haven't had a chance to size the bracelet. |

I would do it and wear it. That way all the "worn" issues are your own! The price honestly doesn't seem out of line since used ones are trading in the 5-6's and they are "worn". Its cheaper than a ceramic and IMHO just that much better. The older SD just epitomizes what a Rolex "tool" watch should be in my mind. Good luck and hopefully...CONGRATS.

def go new in box for that price differential. itll always be yours and only yours and if you ever chose to sell, itll have only one owner with a full accounting of its whereabouts. I coulda got a used line new condition for my BLNR for 3-5 hundred dollars less, but for that amount to have it brand spanking new and peel the plastics off yourself (quite the pain in the ass but oh so satisfying!) is a no brainer in my humble opinion.,...
