New DD 40mm to replace DDII 41mm?

Ok I'm a a bit confused here and havnt been able to find an answer. The new DD 40mm which was just released on baselworld 2015, will it to replace the DD II? Meaning will the DDII be discontinued? Or will the DD be available in 3 sizes from now on 36,40 & 41? Don't see the point of Rolex selling a 40mm alongside a 41mm of the same watch ... Has Rolex given any info regarding this?

So let's say if the 40mm does replace the 41mm and the 41mm is discontinued. In this case what is likely to happen to the DDII in value? Will it increase, stay the same or decrease?

Hi There,

I just called my local Rolex AD and I was told that the DDII isn't being discontinued. But they stated that there is new model that is coming out in the 39mm size.

I think they must have meant 40mm. Some people at Baselworld are saying the DDII is being discontinued.

There's been a couple of threads regarding this matter already. It does look like the DD II is on the way out.

There is now only the DD and new DD 40mm as of now. You can easily pick one up as many AD's have them in stock and they are quite plentiful in used market as well.

Just checked the Rolex website...they are still showing the DDII in the watch list, so how do you say there is only DD and DD 40mm for now?

It's also listed here under the Oyster collection:

That's a fair question if you haven't been around here for a time.

Baselworld is the annual trade show for watchmakers and jewelers worldwide, held in Geneva. All the brands generally introduce their new models at this event. Biggest watch "trade show" in the world, held annually in March.

With very few exceptions, this is the only time of year Rolex introduces new models.

And I will mention that we all look forward to Jocke's posts and photos from the event, as he attends annually, so look for that thread in the next few days. One of the highlights of TRF, IMHO.

what do you think would happen to the value of DDII if it is discontinued? (Replaced by the DD 40)

I think the value will go down since the general consensus is that the 40mm looks better / more proportional and will be in greater demand as a result

I suspect all models will be available, but the DDII limited to markets like in Asia.

The 40mm looks great. Very balanced, I like the case shape and the way the bracelet fits to the case quite a bit. I wouldn't expect the DDII to increase...

I suspect DD II will probably not be discontinued until most dealers have sold out their existing stock.

I think you're right, I don't think Rolex need to act quickly here all of a sudden.

I have a DD II and really like it. Now the 40mm does have better proportions, from the photos. I wonder if the DD II was not selling very well. The DD II's do have good resale value so I wonder if that is the case. Time will tell, but it would be out of character for Rolex to cancel a version II of a watch.

You're probably right, but then again it doesn't even make sense to be selling a 40mm size and a 41mm size side by side either

I doubt Rolex will recall existing stock of the DD2 - what would they do with it? Like when they've discontinued other watches they'll just stop making more.

I'm not really talking about pulling back existing stock (obviously they won't do that) but stop producing new 41mm.
