Floating v Big Red question

Would anybody mind explaining the difference between big red and floating red Daytona dial to the uneducated

Good question, I have been trying to find an explanation to this, some dealers seem to get excited about a floating big red which I assume is the distance above the sub-dial of the red daytona lettering but to me all the silver dials look the same whereas the black dials seem closer to the sub dial. Be interesting to hear the experts view point.

Flaoting dial on 16520 daytona- early R series had the word daytona below the other 4 lines thus floating below- quite rare

maybe a new term of floating red pertains to 6263/5?- who knows so many new terms these days

Hi Paul, Yep great stuff, it just begs the question is a floating dial any more or less desirable than the normal dial or indeed is there no difference?

Based on experience over many years, my belief is that low "Big Red Daytona" dials are generally found in the first group of red Daytona watches, ranging from c. 5M - 6M, and high Daytona dials thereafter, from around 7M until the end of production. Of course, it is good to bear in mind that many of the earlier low "Red Daytona" watches have, by now, had their dials replaced with later high Daytona dials, which will pollute the samples observable in the wild.
