I really like PAM GMTs, but the faux patina/ecru lume looks out of place on the 531, IMHO.

I've had a 531 for about a month now and love it. I told myself this would share wrist time with my Breitling and Tag, but it hasn't left my wrist. I personally was debating between the 531 and 88 and ultimately decided on the 531 because of the in-house movement and the see through case-back; plus I got a deal I couldn't pass up. I've never been a rolex fan (yes I realize this is a rolex forum), so I can't comment on the trade debate. I've added a few straps in addition to the black that it came with and really like some of the browns I bought that I think pair nicely with this.

I just came across this piece (Pam531) last weekend when I was in Vegas. Very good looking piece. First time I've tried on a Panerai, and this one was beautiful. The store offered the watch for list price, and I could tell that was it. I had not been shopping or researching Panerai prices. I've always viewed Vegas as a bad place to purchase anything, let alone Jewelry. I know there is the appearance of controversy over Panerai in-house movements. I don't get the feeling of a super dependable movement. I declined to purchase, but I absolutely love the piece. I'm looking for an excuse, but I'm one of those investigate/research to death in a search for good value, guys.
Last thing I want, is to have ANY problems with a $10K purchase.
I'm hoping to read more about this watch, but have yet to learn much about it. I would think the trade for the 40mm dweller would've been a fair deal, if not a very good deal. Just my thought.

I normally prefer a more simple/clean dial but that looks stunning! Nice layout.

Maybe you can clear things up for me? referring to earlier Panerai Movments, there were questions about whether they were in house or modified movements (I know modified is fairly common). There were questions on some movements regarding the finish on the movement on a certain model. I forget if it was a display back or because it wasn't, the finish was unexpected. I've read more than a few post that just didn't sound very dependable. I've posted a few times, asking about the dependability of Panerai. When asking people in person as to the dependability of Panerai, there is ALWAYS a slight pause, before saying, yes it's dependable. "You shouldn't experience any problems. If you do, just bring it back".
When you ask someone about the dependability of Rolex's 3135 movement, there is no equivocating. The answers are very reassuring. Some of these responses have been from dealers who carry both. But there is always, that pause before answering; yes, you shouldn't have any problems with it.
Please tell me how dependable these Panerai's are. Isn't the movement in this Pam531 just a few of years old? Should that concern me?
I really liked this 531. Please give me an excuse! lol

i got one about 2 years ago. Love it. Elegant with a slightly sporty edge. SD4K is a great watch too.
