Rolex Submariner: Fake

I am pretty certain this is fake, but it has a Rolex servicing receipt with it, which is throwing me off. Thoughts?

Hanybad,

What portion of the watch would help you better give an opinion? Or just clearer pics?

Better pics between both sets of lugs. Maybe a closer pic of the dial.

So far not looking bad. It's just a vintage piece. They didn't fake these very well back then, if at all.

It's real and I'm sure you know it's missing the whole bezel assembly
Does it have the crystal retaining ring? I can't tell from those photos.

So the bezel aasembly is what is throwing me off. There is a bezel but there is no spring or retaining ring.

I am going to take this over to my AD and have them take a look and service it. The watch was left to me and it would be pretty cool to find out its genuine.

So you have the bezel with insert? I think the crystal retaining ring is there otherwise it would be fairly easy to take the glass off so if you have the bezel with insert the only thing missing is the spring.
Good luck and it's a nice watch to have

They probably won't touch it, and if they do, don't let them replace the dial or hands.

The crystal retaining ring is on the watch (can be seen in the photos) but the bezel itself is gone. It does look genuine.

Open 6's in 660 would make it a service dial, 6 mil would date it to 79/80.

Post it in the vintage forum for expert opinion.

Ed, just out curiosity why would they not touch it?

Thanks everyone for the info and patience. I like collecting watches but have a ton to learn about their history.

The watch pictured was my uncles and when he passed this and a few Timex watches were given to my father. My father in return sent it to Rolex for servicing. When he got it back he gave it to me, but we have both always questioned its authenticity. Lesson learned on this.

Rolex wouldn't have serviced it if it was not authentic.

Here's a theory.
The watch is authentic but the bezel is not.
Rolex removed the fake bezel and offered to put a genuine one on but your dad balked at the price.
That's why the bezel is not on the watch.

Just a wild guess.
