GMTII-C or GMTII Coke?
Decision making time ... which will you go for if you have the choice for ONLY 1?
Though I love both and if I go for 1 of it, it'll be my 5th watch (3 PAMs & 1 AP RO ) in 3mths So to get both together will kill my budget for other projects . So which one of these 2 ... 1) Rolex GMT Master II - 16710 "D" series with the 3185 movement in Black/Red (Coke) bezel 2) Rolex GMT Master II-C - 116710 "Z" series with, of course, the 3186 movement |

Now, i have recently touched on this in another couple of posts. Go for the classic man. I like the GMT IIc i have now, but was it the right move......prob not. Go for the sleek timless GMT II bro. personally, and this is only me, but i would go black bezel instead of coke, but its a personal thing.
I found my GMT II c shows up the scratches, is a little clumbersome to wear for working in, but the quick link is a boon to the weary traveler! The clasp is a huge improvement, but too bulky. The dial is clearer to those who wear glasses like me and who cant see in the dark, and the bezel is practically indestructable (but the platinum easily marks) Got to be the GMt II my friend..... but as is always said, what sings to you , is the right choice!

Hmmm, thats actually a difficult choice now that I think of it. I say that it would be the GMT II (non ceramic) by a very narrow margin though I would really wish that there was an option to have both.
However my opinion is just mines, my advice is to go with the watch that smiles at you the most. Just lay them side by side, I think that is when you can make a decision on which one you really want to go with.

I prefer the older GMT ll over the ceramic version. I don't really care how the case blends into the bracelet on the ceramic version. My vote would be for the "Coke."

Well imo having tried both on, I prefer the classic 16710. I found it more comfortable, plus I just feel the new GMT as nice looking as it is, is to fussy for an every day tool watch. The 16710 is a Rolex Classic.
imo the new GMT would of benefited from an all satin braclelet for real tool watch appeal Any excuse to post a photo

I've owned an SS GMT IIc. Although I initially liked the watch, I would have no doubt what to choose if I wore to opt between the new and old GMT II.
I'd definately go for the OLD GMT II !

I tried a GMTIIc on at the AD the other day and I thought that it was awesome quite frankly. So clean and the ceramic bezel looks incredible!

I have just received a package in the last half hour that has in it.......my new GMTIIc - have to say its the only Rolex that has ever blown me away.... which in my mind indicates that if you like the more modern look this is the one to go for. The older models look far to retro for me. The green hand is fab !

I would go with the older model. They are tougher to get, and the GMTIIC isnt going anywhere for quite a while, so if you change your mind in future it will be easy to get hold of one.

A am going through a similar debate and posted a few days ago asking if there was an issue with the GMT-IIc due to the (seemingly) large number of people who bought the ceramic and later got rid of it. This thread has provided more information on why folks chose to sell their ceramic or get rid of it for another watch.
I still lean toward the ceramic, but with a brushed bracelet. Check out this link: http://forums.timezone.com/index.php...82#msg_3696117 If I go IIc, I'll be doing the same. |

That's a tough choice to make. I generally like the ceramic bezel and the updated solid links and clasp of the 116710. I could pass on the maxi dial and polished center links. Overall, I like the ceramic version in that it looks great with shorts or tux. I vote for the ceramic by a close margin.

Best way is to try both on and that should tell you what's best. But if you're asking me the classic 16710 GMT "Coke" is the way to go.
Good luck, dP

I like the new model the best .....
Both are great choices but I Like the new model more, because of the crown, parachrom spring and the bracelet.

just picked up a gmt 2 pepsi last night. m serial number. tried on the gmt2c, LV, milgauss, and explorer 2... but the pepsi spoke to me once i actually tried it on.
not sure if it does have the 3186, but it does have the "stick" gmt 2 vs. the roman numerals, seemed to pass the wiggle test. but either way.. i am very happy with it.

GMT II, the polished bracelet on the IIc really ruined the watch IMO.

Not an easy one. I would take the 16710 due to the fact that it is no longer in production. But, the 116710 would certainly be my next whenever I could afford it.
