I really like this blue Sub (Mod)
SS Sub with blue bezel - What a combination! I love it. I want it. I love it and want it but I know I can't have it.
I hope it's okay to link to to the site: http://rolexblog.blogspot.com/2011/1...ubmariner.html |

Too hard to find the parts and too inconvenient when dealing with RSC for service (independents are increasingly hesitant to work on modded watches for fear of loosing parts accounts). It's easier to just get the WG Sub.

Agree. Someone will be in for a surprise when they send a modded watch to an RSC.

Love the "shark" mod.

Even if you source the WG bezel with blue ceramic inset, you are still at less than half the cost of a WG sub with a more unique look. |

Service should be a consideration. I'm comfortable disassembling movements and can service ETA movements without concern but I'll never service one of my Rolexes. Why? I don't have a parts account. So if independents risk losing parts accounts and won't service modded watches, what is an owner to do? |

I'd just get the new Blue Pelagos. I believe the bracelet is even easier to microadjust.
And it is cheaper and easier than doing a mod...and WAY cheaper than buying the WG. |

I wonder if people mod SS Rolexes to look like precious metal models to make people think they can afford precious metal. Or do they just like the colors and dials of precious metal watches, but without the cost.

I'm talking about sourcing the entire WG bezel w/ blue insert installed. Not actually swapping inserts. I know that is a giant pain, as the ceramic inserts are very fragile. |

If I did this, for me, it would be the latter. I could care less what people "think" I paid for my wrist watch. I do, however, love the blue sub, but can't justify the cost, so a mod like this is a good middle ground for me. FWIW, I haven't done this mod, but have been considering a stainless sub for my next purchase with this mod in mind.

This is probably going to win out for me as my next move. But the shark is tempting... (Not my watch... Found on TRF)...

I generally subscribe to the "it's your watch, do what you want with it" philosophy when it comes to modded watches. However I think it's important that anyone doing so understand all the pro/cons. I've modded a fair number of watches but I have the tools and skills to reverse all of them. Even so service and parts are an issue that temper my enthusiasm for modding.

Can we do this on the old sub? Get a non ceramic blue bezel (from like the two tone blue sub) and put it on a period correct sub? |

David, at one point had a fully modded SS Sub with (genuine) WG dial and bezel insert. So you could try reaching out to him if you're interested in something like that.

same difference - err, same thing - (i think i just did it too). but i doubt this is a socio-economic reason. anyone who wears a modern rolex trying to make their modern rolex look more preciousmetalrolexy (ugh) is a stretch with todays ref#'s. they're still dropping $10k (lets say) and that's not sofa change. fwiw, i personally just like ss more than WG - simple as that. at the end of the day, (here's the just wear it and enjoy it answer) its your watch so who cares. |

easy
He sure it makes it look easy. However, I live in the fear camp, meaning, I fear I will make my watch worse when I try to work on it, or modify it. I leave this type of repair to the professionals.
The blue looks nice, but I would much rather have the white gold version...!

Love it! There's a thread in here somewhere where someone has done this mod to a 14060 and it looks fantastic. I plan to get a 14060m in the future and do this mod too.
I'd also do the mod simply because blue is my favorite colour and can't get the smurf as I have an allergy to gold. Not good for my skin :( |
