Am I ruining the AP look with a small dial? (37mm)
Hey guys.
Yes it is me again; I do apologise for making another thread, however your opinions are greatly appreciated, and I am really thinking this one hard now. I am thinking of picking this beauty up as my dress watch / business casual attire watch. I have a BLNR which serves me as an all rounder. Do you think I am killing the look with a small dial? Or you think this works for me? I have 6" ish wrists. On a side note, I would like to ask current RO members on the durability of this watch. I do understand that these watches are gentle and can catch scratches easily, which I have no problem with, however is it easy to dent the watch with a slight hit on the door, etc? Give me your honest opinions. Thank you all |

I personally think huge watch on a small wrist looks wrong. That 15450st looks AWESOME on you.

It looks ok, but in MY opinion ... the 15300 on your other thread looked better.

Will be waiting to see if they make a 15450 with a grey or black dial...

What is your actual wrist size 6", 6.5" or somewhere in between? My wrist is around 6.4" and am also considering the 15450. I would be interested to know the length of the case lug to lug as well as the width of the top surface of your wrist... Would help me picture how it would sit on my own wrist. From my perspective though even though I prefer a darker dial, the 15450 looks better on you than the 15300

Size is perfect. Do they offer it in a black or blue dial?

Too many on this forum wear over sized watches I think that looks absolutely perfect. my 15400 fits about the same on my 7.5in wrist and I would argue it is a little too oversized would have preferred the 39mm.
It looks prefect as sports or dress. I do find them easy to dent and yes a door will do it, largely because of the shape and the polished surfaces, a Rolex even a Patek is probably more robust, but if you can get over it when it happens you will be fine, otherwise it may not be the watch for you, and I am not hard on my watches either.

I can live with scratches, a few dings, I just fear having a major deep dent that completely ruins the look of the watch. Hopefully it won't come to that though; any watch is anyway prone to damage. I wonder if anyone knows how much a full case replacement would cost from AP. Would be curious to know. |

Crazypilot I feared I may have convinced you that the AP is able to be badly damaged... better that I post to explain in fact others may do the same (I went and took these photos for you again not great camera or light). I collected my AP Dec 2014, and have worn it probably 8 weeks in total since then, only contacts have been very slight with brushing middle of doors not whacking end of them etc, no drops/brick walls etc..... I work in an office and don't play sport with watches either, am careful but not obsessive (no mouse pads under my wrist!!!!).
Two small marks on the bezel surface the shape I believe encourages small marks the one at the top near 3pm is not easy to see unless you reflect it in certain light the one closer to 7.20pm is pretty clear and was far from a big collision, they will scratch more than a Rolex but far from needing a new case, they will polish out at service. I also got a small graze in a similar way on my WG Lange, it somewhat healed itself (less pronounced than it was) and again it will clear up totally with a very light polish. Never have issues with any of my Rolex, other than the faint scratches we all get with PCL, I would rather they were brushed, but there are a million posts including currently on that one. I am not fussed much about scratches but the shape and size of the 15400 and polished nature do make it attract small marks. WOULD Not stop you buying the one pictured it is a perfect choice and fit for you. Cheers CM

Ah I fully get you. Thanks for taking the time, and the pics. Absolutely beautiful watch. I can totally live with scratches here and there on my watch. I do intend to wear it as my dress watch, and generally under less demanding circumstances. My only fear was the thought of having a bad hit where I would have to change the case completely. I think perhaps I am misguided on how durable the RO is. I am sure other than picking scratches easy, she is built like a tank. Thanks for the help once again! |

I'm not one for anything under 39mm, but that looks good on you.
