Anyone dealt with Rigbot?

Rigby has sold numerous items on TimeZone Forums. He has a nice AP FS but says he is selling it for a personal friend. The wire would be to his friend and the watch would be shipped from his friend as well. I've already been burned once on WatchNet by a scammer. I can't afford another.

Does this at all sound suspicious or am I just being overly paranoid?

Hello Mark,

Those are two different watches. I took the pictures of the AP i sent
you myself and i don't know where you got the this other picture from.

I can understand you being difficult as to your past experience, but
what i cant understand is how you seem to forget that i also have my
reputations on the line.

How will you make payment and not get what you paid for? Bank wire for
payment and the AP will be shipped to you the next day after your
payment is received.

Let me know if you are going through with the deal as it is, but if
not. I wish you don't contact me again.

Kindly,
Rigby

Mark, there are soooo many red flags there. I'd stay away.....
Typical scammer talk, selling it for a friend, he's not into the watch community, so you can't talk with him, overall grammar and his use of certain words. Too many screaming red flags.......

Interesting, I received an email yesterday from a [email protected] (but name said Scott Harris) asking about a watch sold a couple weeks ago, and then a follow up today asking me whether I was a dealer (I am not) and whether I could help him source a completely different watch that he did not describe in the email, but said pics were in two links in the email. The links were caught by my filter as potential phishing attachments. I deleted the email and did not respond. Seems to close to be a coincidence.

If you get burned, buy from an AD. At least that is what I would do. Is the savings worth the risk?

Even if it was not scam, I would avoid it. You are asked to wire funds to his friend. If there is anything wrong with the watch, you have no recourse. Regardless of the seller's reputation, what happen if the owner becomes uncooperative?

That was my biggest concern. So what if the seller has a good reputation. The owner might be a complete scammer. Why not provide me with his information? Doesn't add up.

And the seller says he personally took the photos of the watch but
1) I thought the owner had the watch (according to the seller)
2) There is no denying the 2 pics of the clasp are identical. IDENTICAL.

Mouthwash, when someone says "if you don't buy it don't contact me again" you know what to do.

Tell him you want to fly to Florida or where ever he claims he is from, for a FTF. See how that sits.....

Mark,

I'm not really sure why you don't just buy from the trusted sellers on this forum that have great references. Guys like DavidSW, OC Rolex,JustRolexes to name a few. These guys can probably find any watch you want, prices are competitive but most important, there is piece of mind.

If you've been burned once that should be enough to drive you away from any questionable dealers

I've done a few deals with Rigbot with no problems but each time his items were "on hand." I would not hesitate to do another deal with him.

Do the terms you posted sound fishy for a person you do not know? ABSOLUTELY!

Few Options..

1) Walk away. No need to post any more emails between you and him..
2) See if the terms of the sale can be changed but expect to pay for it. Arrange for the owner to ship the watch to Rigbot, you send the wire to him, he ships the watch to you.. Yada yada yada... He is obviously brokering the deal.
3) Get the contact information from his friend and go from there, have a TRF member help you out for a local deal in Florida or fly down there.. From the sounds, it appears to be a good deal.

I've just read thru it again. I've been a sales guy my whole life and it surely stinks. He's probably got shills on here as well.

Mark don't walk away from this watch. Run quickly !!

I too received a message from Scott Harris ([email protected]), saying that "I am very interested and ready to make purchase now" in reference to a watch I'm selling on TZ. His emails didn't sit well with me based on a number of factors, and the above post put the final nail in the coffin. And right before I was ready to post this, I too received the exact same email from him:

Quote:
Hello,

I am located in Albuquerque, NM. Do you have any other watch for sale? I am also looking for this watch, don't have any details about it just a picture of it i saw online.

[LINKS REDACTED]

I will much appreciate any help or details i can get on this watch.

Kindly,
Scott
Funny how's he "ready to make purchase now," but then asks if I have any other watch for sale and then he inquiries about yet another watch with two questionable links. Definite scammer or at least a phishing attempt.

I bought a very expensive part from Rigby ([email protected]) last year, and he came through flawlessly. Still, if for any reason you don't feel comfortable, trust your gut.

I received the same solicitation. Did you guys notice the email replies would take a whole day? In my experience, the person that wants to buy my watch continues to email exchanges promptly and often wants to talk on the phone.

This is BAD NEWS!

I have also received an email from Scott Harris ([email protected]) to my for sale ad. Same email about how he is ready to purchase now.

Also raised my alarm bell as he didn't seem to know what I was selling nor read my ad ie didn't seem to know where I was despite stating my location in the ad and the fact that I advertised no overseas shipping.

Definitely avoid.

Yes, he also took at least 24 hours to respond to me. In looking back upon his emails, the timestamps seem to indicate that he's in the GMT timezone. Possibly from the UK?

Same with me. I specified my location in my listing, yet he still asked where I was located. His emails were brief and he after a couple of exchanges, he says, "I am very interested and ready to make purchase now." He doesn't ask any questions at all or make any attempts to at least negotiate. Beware guys, as many scammers take this giveaway approach.

I DO buy from trusted sellers. This guy just happened to have what I was looking for. But since I have been scammed, I'm going to make sure I do due diligence now. I walked away from this one. I'm no newbie, just let my guard down. Never again.
