Day-Date (nice) Dilema,your Thoughts & Advise Welcome

Hi All

Think i Have finally decided to buy a day-date in yellow gold or rose (everose) gold.

Main reasons are i had one stolen some years ago & never got round to replacing it & hoped Rolex or an AD might of had it in for a service !,finding my watch,alas after 6 yrs don't think that will happen now, I do miss a nice watch.

Another reason is i would like to have something that holds it's value,so can pass onto my son,when i eventually croak it.(51 yrs old,now).
Yes, i would like one as a keeper.

Iam now in a fortunate position without being too silly to buy a DD,although cannot justify buying from an AD,& buying new from an AD does not bother me,as soon as i walk out of the door the value drops amazingly,with or without a discount.

So to my point.

Pre-owned: Do i go for a 2000 yr plus model at 10-11+ k or do i go that extra few 1000 & go for a 2014 / 2015 'worn once' or 'unworn' ?.

I'm thinking buy Pre-owned from Europe due to exchange rate euro against £ saving a further 1k or so.

I understand owning a Rolex is in the pride of ownership & something to be admired & respected,although would like my son to have something of value in years to come.

Your thoughts ,advise experiences would be appreciated.

Do they do better deals instore as their internet prices seem quite high compared to,some London dealers.

No disrespect to the vintage guys on here,i also feel the six digit models will be better as plan to keep the watch,wear it ,love it & enjoy it.

If you are going to go the six digit route buy the mintiest one you can....

They are GREAt watches. I am on a ver big DD kick right now but more focused on the vintage exotic dials. If going for the something more "standard" get the freshest one you can. The Six digits are a real presence on your wrist. Good luck and enjoy!!!

I'd go as new as you can get especially since this is meant to be a keeper and to be passed down. Happy hunting!

Definitely as new/mint as you can get within your budget. A few thousand more on a lifetime piece is nothing if you can absorb the extra expense.

Thicker / polished lugs, more solid bracelet, newer clasp design, those are all significant improvements in my mind. Single/Double quickset is what always gets mentioned, but if you wear it or keep on a winder, those issues are much less noticeable than those I already highlighted.

I wear the heck out of mine!

I would probably wear mine regular,as Rolex as when go for service they come back looking as new....from feedback from other forum members.

That seems to be the case at present, you start off at 6k now i'm up to 14 / 15k !!

Hi Andrew , if you go in and have a chat I'm sure you will get a better price. You may be able to get a better price off the internet but at least buying from a bricks and mortar shop if there is a problem you can go back and get it sorted. Even if you don't buy from them at least you will have seen a few more watches and built up your knowledge .
