Steinhart Watches - thoughts?
Anyone own a Steinhart? I've got the Ocean 1 Vintage Military and the Ocean 1 Red - both replicated from vintage Rolexes... but both very impressive time pieces. Any others out there with Steinhart experience and thoughts??

They live and breath copying designs they had nothing to do with creating. I guess it is OK to celebrate a watch design one love, but this just doesn't do it for me.

Nice watches, although I'd feel weird buying one.

This is bizarre, a fellow WIS in my office ordered the Vintage Red last week and it landed from Germany today. They have updated the dial to anthracite from black which gives it a more vintage feel.
Yes its a blatant homage to the Red Sub and Seadweller but it doesnt bother me. I think for the money (£300 IIRC) it makes a brilliant beater. My first impressions on the one I tried on today is it is a well made watch with the eta2824 work horse installed. The size at 42mm seperates it from the Rolex models it is imitating. I would consider one for use when conducting activities not conducive to my Red Sub.

Their watches are damn good for the money. Excellent choice as a beater/work watch.

I'm surprised and highly impressed that Steinhart makes such a high quality watch with top notch bracelet with ETA-2824 and cost around $350. That's freaking unbelievable!! I don't think there is any company out there which does that in that price range.

I have an Ocean one black with ceramic bezel insert, excellent value for a beater, and unbelievably accurate! It's averaging +1~2 spd.

Remember that Steinhart sells direct to the consumer – if they were doing the usual retail/distribution thing, their prices would be at least double, in all likelihood. Even then, they'd still compete favourably with the usual suspects in that segment of the market – but to stand a chance, and as mentioned above, they'd need to be creating their own designs. |

I like to believe you are referring to the generic clasp they use. Making clasp is very expensive for generic brands but IMO, there isn't another better bracelet(all solid links and end) than Steinhart under $500 category. I've handled pretty much all well known affordable under $500 and even other wise, majority folks agree that Steinhart has the best bracelet in its price range. Personally I like good clasps on the bracelet and Steinhart should someday work on that.

Clasp could be nicer, but the bracelet (or mine at least) is a bit loose tolerance – ergo rattly.
Sure, it only costs €65, inc 20% sales tax, but it's no better than that fitted to an $800 Deep Blue, except it's not as thick. I'd like to see what they could offer for €120 – especially for the Premium line. I'm sure they have the volume to justify a second bracelet, that's a good step up from the existing one, and might even find buyers opting for it instead. |

I thought I would get this thread going again because I am thinking of picking up a Steinhart Ocean One GMT for travel. Anyone familiar with these watches in 2023?

I have an Ocean Vintage GMT and love it. I prefer it to the Tudor BB Pro because I love the 24 hr markers all lumed up on the dial. I have the 42mm but would love to downsize it to the 39mm.

I own two and really hate their logo, looks like toys are us but I can't complain about the quality of the watches for the money.

Checked with Rolex ADs yesterday (while waiting for years now) about current chance for getting a new gmt and sounds like not a chance.

Gnomon is great. They have many different brands and an outstanding customer service.
