I'm looking to order either a PAM233 or PAM270. I noticed the PAM233 is manual 8 days, and PAM270 is automatic and 10 days. I think the 270 is power reseved odd. I 270 is nice, but I might lean towards the 233. IMO, Panerai is known to be a manual wind watch, so the 8/10 days is great. Anyone?

You're right, the manual wind is a bit more "Panerai"
It takes a while to wind it if you wait the full 8 days. ( mine will go 9.5 days on a full wind though, this is pretty normal for the 233's).
270 is a bit pricier, for the extra 2 official days, and the auto wind.
Both are great IMO.

The "8-Day" rating for the p2002 used in the 233 is more of a nod to history than reality. The "8-Day" pays homage to the 1950, but in practice the triple barrel is really a 10-day power reserve. I can pull the reference if it matters. WatchTime did a feature on the in-house movements last summer.

It's not my decision to make, but if I was buying, I'd take the 233. As nice a watch as any, IMO.

Hien, the 233 you need about 80-100 turns to fully wind it and it will last about slightly touching 10 days according to many.

Whereas the PAM270, someone tested that it took about 40 hours of wearing and it was wound to the full 10 days.

So you must as yourself, are you a patient man to wind it every 9-10 days at 80-100 turns every time? Or are you a lazy bum like me who just prefer automatic watches who let my wrist movement taking care of the winding!

I would go for the PAM270 which is a not contest here IMO, cos not only the PAM270 is the first PANERIA in-house auto movement but it is the longest power reserve of any automatic watches that I know of!!! Simply awesome!!!

Btw, many said the PAM190 (with JLC) movement is smoother to wind than the PAM233. Anyway I do not own any of them so I cannot tell you. But the clear winner for me is the PAM270!!!

I noticed you are getting a 90. Have you considered the Rad 268 8-day? I used to be hooked on the Luminor Cases, but then I tried on a Rad case....

Tough to decide between 233 and 270. I always thought the 233 was the perfect watch and it gets a lot of wrist time however, I like the layout of the 270 with the 9 next to the second hand. I have the 270 on order but who knows what that means. I would get both or which ever comes in first.

i'm working on getting a PAM 233 all the way bro. 2.5k cheaper and manual? no brainer
coil in side the movement is identicle. just can't say 8day vs automatic 10 day.

all in on 233. and i will get one.

Mike, what a nice collection - wow! Matt, now that's a nice watch. I'm in NYC, so I might have to visit Panerai and all the AD here. Is really an addition, just like when I got my first Rolex. The rest came really fast, and the bank account too.

I have only owned the 270 for 2 weeks now but I must say I'm slighty dissappointed. The winding mechanism seems poor. I'm a very active person but I'm sure the PR indicator will never hit the 10 day mark unless I stop sleeping. Having owned an IWC big pilot in the past where only a few hours of wear will take it to the full PR of seven days.

So to answer your question. Definatley the 233 over the 270! Although I love the 270 dial the most.

Ignore the straps. Once you have a Panny, the strap collection begins. Super easy to change and thus customize.

Actually all of my Panerai watches exceed my expectations. The winding on the 270 just makes it slightly less perfect than the rest.

Both the 270 and 233 have a nearly identical in house movement. The 233 just doesn't have the auto winding mechanism. Both have display backs.

BigHat is right about the straps. Most of my oem straps are unworn in my sock drawer. With the exception of the 190. IMO no other strap fits it as well as the original black croc!

Mike, you're right. I forgot that both the 233 and 270 are clear backcase. I moving toward the 233 for the manual wind function, just more Panerai to me. The problem, I just can't get over the "9" on the 270 dial. I will be in NYC for about 1 1/2 weeks, hope find some more PAMs. I know, maybe Chinatown have some cheap ones
