I'm guessing the plates are made from 904 which is the same as their cases, the remainder will be the same as most other watches, hard drawn brass and stainless steel

You will find several different materials. Chiefly:

1. Brass
2. Brass with Rhodium plating
3. Beryllium bronze
4. Steel
5. Glucydur

The Submariner is, in my belief, the quintessential timepiece for many. When my mind thinks of the word 'watch,' it is a Submariner I see."

The Parachrom Bleu hairspring is made up of a ratio of 85% Niobium 15% Zirconium. Interesting to note Rolex is one of the world's major users of Niobium.

This is one of the most interesting metal's I like Glucydur:

An antimagnetic rustproof metal alloy that expands very little when exposed to heat which properties make glucydur useful in making balance wheels to ensure high accuracy of timekeeping.

"An anti-magnetic alloy of Beryllium (formerly called Glucinium) and Copper which expands very little when exposed to heat. Glucydur is hard and corrosion-resistant, and is used for uncompensated balances." (http://sites.google.com/site/simeonlapinbleu/horology)

"A highly elastic, hard, non-magnetic and non-oxidising alloy used to make monometallic balances, assortments (escapements) and balance-springs. A Glucydur balance is made from a copper alloy containing 3% beryllium and around 0.5% nickel. It is recognisable by its gold colour. Glucydur is a multi-metallic alloy, used in the watch industry for building different parts of the mechanism. Glucydur is an alloy of beryllium, copper and iron. Due to such properties as hardness, resistance to deformation, damage or magnetic fields and its stability this alloy is perfect for making balance wheels for watches' mechanisms. Glucydur is also resistant to corrosion; it is rather inert chemically. Due to these qualities it is extensively used in producing antimagnetic watches." WorldTempus

It's really just a circuit board. Why do you think Rolexes don't have clear backs?

Thanks for this. When I read the post above listing materials, I had no idea what this was. Quite interesting.

Small correction, Peter, but I'm sure you meant/know that the jewels are synthetic rubies & not sapphire like the crystal.
