ultrasonic cleaners, safe?

Several TRF members have referenced using Ultrasonic Cleaning machines to clean their bracelets without hurting their watches. They do this by placing their watch on a "shelf" which holds the watch above the water level yet dangles the bracelet into the water for a more thorough cleaning than is possible w/other cleaning methods.....especially if your bracelet has "hollow" links rather than "solid".
My question is can the sonic motion hurt or jiggle the watch case which is suspended above the water line?
I know one could remove the bracelet but what I really want to know is this: IF YOU SUSPEND THE WATCH ITSELF ON THE "WATCH SHELF" can the ULTRASONIC VIBRATIONS hurt the movement inside the watch. I am not comfortable removing the bracelet and just dunking that. I have an older watch w/hollow links and cannot believe the soft brush can get it really clean.
Thanking you in advance for your expertise and all your ideas.

I have heard many members using it for their bracelets with no problem. I do not know about the water line, but I do not that the head should not be put in an ultrasonic cleaner

I would just pop the bracelet off to be safe. Takes a few seconds.

It's always better to take the bracelet off so the entire watch doens't take the plunge by accident.

Plenty of YouTube videos on it. It's super easy as long as you have the proper springbar tool.

What tool do you use to pop off the bracelet?

I think it's crazy not to remove the bracelet when ultrasonic cleaning the bracelet. Have you seen how dirty it gets in the lugs??

l would not do that to a working watch to save my life, regardless if the head was above the water line. Keep in mind an ultrasonic cleaner is just a speaker, the high frequency does travel better through water and loses most of its power above that water line, but its still strong enough to transduce from the bracelett (and air) into the movement and screw with the lubrication.

No matter how clean the watch is, dirt will get into the movement and collect at the oil points, as that happens slowly over time physics will work the dirt to the outer edges of the oil and keep out of the important parts(for the most part) this is what happens in between a service and normal, but screwing with that natural prograssion with high freqeency and getting it all mixed back together can't be a good thing. my .02345 cents

Not one single watchmaker would ever put a complete and functional mechanical watch head anywhere near an ultrasonic cleaner. Take the bracelet off. Don't know how, maybe don't mess with it then. My .02.
