Help me decide! (AP vs IWC vs FPJ)
Hi all,
I'm deciding between an AP 15202 in steel, an IWC Portuguese Perpetual (New Version WG), or an F.P. Journe Chronometre Bleu. The IWC has the benefit of having a perpetual calendar and a 7 day power reserve, albeit at a premium over the others. The Journe and AP to me have finer finishing and equally interesting aesthetics. What are your thoughts on these watches? |

I'll vote fpj, as I much prefer the pp 5711 to the ap 15202

The FPJ would make for a great pairing with your 5712

Since you have the 5712 I would say FJP. But the CB is a blue watch, a very blue watch, and as much as I love it in a two watch rotation it might be a bit much.
The Portuguese has a stunning dial, particularly the blue one. But its a very large watch and thick. In terms of wearability I'd say the RO, but it really depends on if you want another bracelet-watch. |

Two quite distinct styles of watch being contemplated, and whilst it's hard to not like the 15202, it effectively doubles up on what you have already, in the shape of the 5712.
Naturally, the FPJ, with its 18kt gold movement and off-centre seconds sub dial, would give you a very different look to choose from – which may be exactly what you're after or need, but I'm going to throw you a bit of a curve ball here. If the numerals on the dial of the FPJ would make it a bit less suitable as a watch to wear to a black-tie event, but a blue dial is a must have – then I'd suggest you give some thought to either of these... http://www.h-moser.com/en/collection...dium-blue-fume http://www.h-moser.com/en/collection...blue-fume-dial https://www.neueuhren.de/venturer-sm...herer-edition/ http://www.masterhorologer.com/2014/...l-seconds.html Given the price mentioned, you'd divide by 1.19, if bought from Germany (Austria might be the same) to remove the local VAT, leaving the export price. Or... http://www.glashuette-original.com/c...0-02-46-32-70/ http://www.glashuette-original.com/c...5-01-12-26-70/ http://www.masterhorologer.com/2015/...rsions-of.html http://www.masterhorologer.com/2015/...serve-new.html If you like bracelets more than straps, you'll be hard pushed to find anything better than what GO produce. Do not dismiss them as the poor man's ALS – they are very far from it! Good luck with your dilemma, and enjoy whichever one you ultimately end up opting for. |

if your wrist is <7" go FP if >7" go AP.
the FP dial is sick though, and that's coming from an AP owner! |

FPJ. Something about that watch is alluring. I say this having owned a royal oak and never a Journe so I may have a bias towards something new

Thanks for the responses everyone. I forgot to mention in the original post that I already have a royal oak chrono (26300st) and a portuguese (7th anniversary 8 days) so I'm worried they might seem repetitive. Regardless I'm torn between the 15202 and the FPJ now.

In that case the FPJ is even stronger! Only problem is they seem to be stingy with the production as of late

202, the FPJ's funky dial doesn't quite do it for me, plus you have the 5712 so one asymmetrical dial ought to be enough.

Had a 15202. The dial just doesn't speak to me like the 5711. To me the journe looks like a different kind of dynamic blue with a dramatically different yet complementary case.

I like all three but the FPJ and AP are close 2 and 1… in my mind. I voted for the AP but it probably would depend on the minute I happened to read this threat. They are both great!

15202 unless you "need" a seconds hand, in which case blue 15300.
FPJ is gorgeous, but, I am afraid to commit to in-house service by a boutique brand that could disappear in the medium-term. |
