ROO chrono as only watch
Hello, I hope you are all doing well. Sorry in advance for the probably long winded post but I am sure you appreciate this as it is my first "good" watch! My current watch is a Casio...
I have been looking for about a year now for a nice, daily watch, with a chronograph, that can withstand daily outdoor life and I absolutely love the ROO chronographs, especially the brown 2014 "themes" model. I wont be diving or hod carrying, but I do some outdoor activities that may give it some light knocks or water / mud - hunting, shooting, camping, etc. The model I am interested in is steel with a "hornback" leather strap. What kind of durability can I expect from such a watch? Is is reasonable to use it as a daily watch? I know I should not be comparing it with an Explorer or Submariner as these are true beaters .. but on the other hand, I am not looking to climb Everest or go scuba diving, so I am hoping I will be OK. After visiting an AP boutique in January, they look and feel more substantial than any other watch I have handled in my life. The industrial/unrefined (in a good way) look of the case seemed convincing and the weight of the steel was pleasing when I tried it on even the leather bracelet was thick and felt tough. However this is merely my surface perception and I have since read that, however rugged the outside, the movement inside is delicate as it is a luxury watch. Is this true, or something to worry about? I do not mind scratches or dings. Actually, I like them, but, I would not want this to extend to the movement or functionality of the watch!!! In other words is this watch the Landrover or is it the Range Rover that looks similar but is just driven around the city. Thanks in advance for any input / suggestions / helpful comments. I apologise if this has been asked before but I have searched the internet without finding the articles I hoped for - and it would be nice to hear from actual owners!! |

Welcome! Sounds like you really like the watch, so I suggest you pull the trigger and get it, and experience it for yourself. There are plenty of people here with 42 mm ROOs who are happy to use them as daily wear.

It can but the ROOs do sit quite high and will get banged up on a daily wear basis so if a marked up bezel and case will bother you then either go for a ceramic bezel model or budget for an AP polish every once in a while, you can have 4/5 without ruining the shape's integrity.

I've been wearing my Diver almost everyday and it certainly seems to be tough enough. You might want to think about getting a rubber strap (supremely comfortable) for some of your outdoor activities.

I would go with the amazing grey dial ROO. The best looking and most versatile of the ROO line imho. It can easily be your daily watch if you want.

Thanks for all the responses, they helped a lot.
The grey dial is nice and I agree versatile. I do love the brown model though - I do not wear a suit for work or dress formally for leisure so for me this should be just as versatile. Plus I think the colour theme fits in more with my hobbies. I hope to be back with pictures in a couple of weeks!! |

I use to wear my 15300 as a daily/beater for almost 2 years, it scratches extremely easily but i don't mind scratches and not looking any time soon to polish it. As a everyday watch of the ROO i don't see a problem with it as a daily just find the model you like the most from their never ending collection.

Sure it can be a daily watch, wear my Diver on almost daily basis, but also have a SubC as I feel every collection need an true allrounder and then there is nothing better than a Sub in my book....
