1984 Oyster Perpetual Air-King-Date: From dust collector to collectors item . . .
Hi gang,
If any of you recall, on April 13th I posted for the first time on this forum with my question, "Worth repairing? 1984 Oyster Perpetual Air-King-Date". Your response was great! And the advice helped me make the right decision . . . to finally repair and appreciate my Rolex. So I finally have it back from an authorized Rolex Service agent (Steve). During the repairs Steve indicated he had a number of people asking if the watch was for sale. Apparently, it's considered a collectors item. Steve said the watch was in very good condition. He was also impressed with the "almost like new" condition of the bracelet. He said it was one of the first "solid(?)" bracelets that Rolex introduced, and just replacing it alone would have been in the $1,000 range. The watch had been stored for over 10 years in my closet. Reason being is that it was damaged back then, and with a cracked crystal and dust inside, I decided not to wear it and risk further damage. At the time, it was not a priority for me to have it repaired due to cost. But now, after collecting dust for 10 years . . . Before repair: After repair: Peter |

Came out great! A Rolex is always a Rolex, there are no entry models; it's all a matter of individual appeal. Wear it in good health...

Looks great - I'll never flip mine, though I seldom wear it because of its small size.
