Class Ring Suggestion:

Okay so when I had my official college (Baylor University) class ring made last year I went in knowing exactly what I wanted. Large-sized 18k white gold with a 0.25ct diamond. When I went to order it at my school the Balfour rep told me that 18k white gold has too much yellow in its tint, so I went 14k. She then said that men complain of the large-sized rings saying something like "it hurts to shake hands" and like an idiot I believed her so I went with the medium size. Last she recommended the 0.10ct diamond because a 0.25ct would've been too big for the star underneath it on the ring. And now for exactly a year I've had this medium 14k white gold ring with a 10 point diamond and honestly I regret it all the time that I didn't go with the original plan. Do y'all think I should trade in my ring back to Balfour and have it remade to my original specs? I just don't know why I allowed myself to be suckered in. It's strange to me that their reps down-sized me rather than up-sized but it is what it is. I honestly wouldn't care but this is a ring I plan on wearing for life on my right ring finger and it just feels incomplete the way it is.

Get it the way you want. You earned it. Every man should have one really solid ring that they are proud of.

To heck with the costs this is a ring that you will wear forever with pride.

Congratulations on your achievement as well.

Although I did graduate from university here is my go to ring.

That is awesome Tom. I got the SS faux sapphire stone variety class ring because that was all we could afford.
My "go to" is a wedding band now, wife insists!!

Sometimes I feel like I should have purchased a school ring, but I never got one because I felt old. I didn't graduate until my late twenties because I decided to race bikes. I didn't get my doctorate until I was close to forty. I think they are a symbol of accomplishment, and you need to fix your problem with your ring; you'll feel better about yourself for it.

I got a signet ring when I graduated from College. I didn't like the traditional bulky class ring with the gem. When I graduated from medical school, I didn't buy a class ring because I never really wore my college class ring.

I wore my college ring for about four months. I'd skip it unless you are sure you'll really wear it.

Great suggestions, everybody. I'm in the process of trying to talk Balfour into waving the remake fee since it was their own rep who pressured me into being down-sold.

I purchased the larger 18k when I received my civil engineering degree. I earned that ring busting my ass studying my brain out for it. Never felt any prouder then when I graduated from U.H.!

Well I finally sent it off to be remade. I definitely think I'll be much happier with these new specs.

Okay quick question about this situation. My father is trying to convince me that an 18k college ring is too soft but to me if it was too soft then they wouldn't offer it right? Can anybody weigh in on this? Obviously all the gold Rolexes on this site are going to be 18k so I know for a fact that it's a jewelry-grade alloy.

Most college rings I've come across have been 10/14. The only thing that ever really gets scratched on my ring is the side under my finger from rubbing against stuff, and that will wear on any ring and is easily polished

I had a nice HS class ring; never got one from either of my colleges. I was camping out on Grand Isle in LA and was attacked by a band of vicious blood sucking mosquitos. Some how my HS ring got left behind in the washroom at the state park in about 1978. That was it for me and class rings. Not quite sure what the purpose would be today, now that I wear a wedding band all the time.

I don't have a college ring but I made a mens 18k yellow gold ring. I like 18k because it is more yellow. Plus it is heavy enough you won't forget you have it on. Though it is softer it adds character with wear. My ring is 41.1gms . I wanted it built like a tank. Also I recomend you make it a little small I went a 1/4 size small so it doesn't slip.my wife calls it my king ring. I'm glad you had it redone you will be much happier in the long run. Also make sure the shank or the part that is on the bottom is made a little thicker this is where you will have problems in the long run. Congrats and wear it in good health.

My UT class ring was my first nice watch: a TAG Heuer (the predecessor to the current Aquaracer)

Law school was an Omega...

Congrats!

I would trade it back for the original ring you planned in the metal you want. Guys rarely complain about the size of rings, and I have had no problem with my 18k wedding ring. I think the sales person was projecting her own feelings about ring size. Sports championship rings are big for a reason! Here is my daughter wearing my son-in-law's hockey rings. He's never complained.
