Is Instant Coffee Crap.

Under the trades description act, should "instant" coffee be called coffee at all?

Having tried many, with names like Cap Colombia, Alta Rica and Kenjara, users are led to believe that these are the products of prime crops from coffee growing countries like Costa Rica, Colombia, or Kenya.

The fact is that instant coffee is really a convenience brew and has as little resemblance to the real thing, as would instant beer made from powder!

For any one who appreciates real coffee flavour, like most good things, there is some pleasurable ritual...

Buy quality selected green beans, stove-top dry roast daily need in iron skillet, stirring often, to desired colour.

Grind immediately cool.

Brew in Italian 8 cup heavy metal coffeepot. Pour and drink immediately.

Rewards for this labour of love? Your whole house will be filled with the glorious aroma of real coffee and your palate utterly blissed out on its unique flavour.

Now, that's coffee, and if your wallet will run to it,one of the world's best IMO is Jamaican Blue Mountain, but I am open to argument on this one!.Jamaican Blue Mountain is wonderful but Kona Hawaiian is nectar of the gods and if you can get it Brazilian Yellow Bourbon is very good as well. All this with a nice portion of your favourite,Amsterdam laughing grass, and a single malt, sheer heaven on earth.

Coffee begins and ends with an extra-large triple-triple at Tim Hortons!

My wife doesn't drink much coffee so if I make a whole pot it usually goes to waste. I've been using instant (Tasters Choice) for a while now and have actually I've actually grown to like it , although it does make me appreciate a cup of "real" coffee at Starbucks.

CJ, putting "real" in the same sentence as Starbucks coffee is an oxymoron. That garbage is seond only to instant for bitterness and burned taste. Yech!!

I don't know if there's any left after Katrina, but the best is Community Coffee with chickoree that I used to get in new Orleans. Now that's real coffee; and with a plate of beignets at Cafe du Monde on Decatur Street, yummmm!!!!

Actually, we brought back some coffee from Jamaica (the blue mountain type) and I gotta say it was really, really good.

The main choices here are Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts. Starbucks is the lesser of the two evils. Besides after drinking instant, Starbucks is a big step up.

Actually, between the two, I prefer Dunkin Donuts. The flavor the donuts somehow seeps into the coffee and gives it a nice taste.

Triple-triple!

My god, you must not like coffee if you have that much cream and sugar in it........at least you didn't say you wanted it Gretzky......(99 - 9 creams and 9 sugars )

I mostly get "regular" from Tim's, but at home just have some sugar in it.......preferrably something nice like a turbinado sugar.

Not sure about roasting your own beans - I would think it would be difficult to get the beans roasted evenly in a skillet. I certainly buy whole beans, and never, ever drink instant coffee (blech!!). In Australia it seems that getting a coffee involves a cappuccino, or and instant coffee with not much in between. I like the cappuccinos, but not really for breakfast. My relatives were nice to me and somehow scrounged up a drip coffee maker while we were there last time, so it was bearable.......

In my view the best coffee comes from a french press.......it allows you the full bean experience, where something with a paper filter will remove the essential oils from the bean.......

Yep, triple-triple... but if I drink a large, I'll get double-double. It's a meal in a cup!

BTW, I thought a french press was something else. Oh, never mind.

Good catch... now why didn't I think of that?

In that sense then my 'honeydew' is a cherry-cheese danish!

For me, I prefer what I call "Cabin Coffee"
At the lake , it is a ritual, you MUST start the morning with French Pressed Coffee, Add Kalhua & Baileys, meander down to the dock, enjoy the brew.
Wake up John, Quit daydreaming..
Sorry got lost in the moment. Back to work...

I hate that stuff! It has nothing to do with coffee at all. As you know we Dutch drink a lot of coffee. It kick starts me in the morning We have a Jura espressomachine. Put in beans and water, make your choice for the amound and strenght, press a button and presto a fresh cup But I'm lazy, I know
