Well unlike a lot of people on here, I have only just caught the bug around 6 months ago.
I now read watches all day long!! History, movements, different references, watch videos, etc.
It's ALL I do. And I am being very impatient with wanting to have a small collection to start with.

Granted that I am only 25, have zero commitments, and make a good amount of money, also have saved up a good amount as I have had zero expensive hobbies in the past, I find myself going way too quickly!!

I bought an Omega speed master which I love dearly as my first watch.
I recently added a Rolex BLNR a few months ago and love that just as much.
I am now very seriously considering a Patek 5711.
I keep telling myself I will slow down after the next. I couldn't have imagined buying a watch as expensive as the 5711, and probably would have thought it was absolutely bizarre; but finding myself easily justifying it now and telling myself it will be the last for a full year.

I know collecting has to be slow, and should be enjoyed; However I just don't have the patience.

I can't be the only one..

As long as you are enjoying it, and not just getting obsessed without getting any real joy, otherwise you'll just burn out.

I don't think that's such a crazy start, this is a public forum with a wide range of participants, many people buy $50k-$100K watches quite regularly, whereas some have been saving for years for their first steel Rolex.

As with most hobbies, people get very passionate in the beginning, and if they end up sticking with it for the long run, they usually calm down.

With watches it's an evolution for most people who stick with it, your tastes and interests change and evolve, I think you are buying good pieces at least from a resale perspective if your tastes change.

Switch to collecting pocket knives or some else less expensive for a while. To prove balance to your life.

Oh I absolutely love it.
Wearing a watch that has a long history, that sings to me so loudly, and one that I find very aesthetically pleasing, and one that I have worked hard for - everything really.

I agree it does help that the resale value is very good for these watches.
I don't buy them as an investment, but it's good to know I can flip them very easily for quick money should I need it.

Promised myself I will slow down after the 5711 and enjoy the hunt for a while before I pull the trigger on the next one.

Buy the 5711, my father purchased one recently and it is absolutely incredible. But at the rate you're going you should hold yourself to the "last one for a year" promise.

The 5711 is a good choice and a prudent purchase ( relatively ) as it's a popular piece and holds value very well. In case you got bored with it after buying you should have no problem selling it. As for "this is my last watch" thingy, I have tried it and it never works

In my first year of watch collecting, I average one new watch per month. This is my 3rd year and I have slowed down a lot since.

Don't forget that having several nice watches starts the clock to several expensive services in five short years or so
It makes sense to stagger purchases for this reason alone

Yeah I second what Ben says, Good choice for the 5711, you may want to try the 5712, many have gone from 5711 to 5712 but I know none which went the opposite way, the 5712 is a very interesting piece

When I joined here TRF did take over most of my free time with me plotting and planning my watch purchases but over time that reduces to a reasonable amount... because you are ofc broke.

Have a cousin that just lost a lot of money, and he's been buying stocks all his life.

I agree. I just am this way in general I think.
Till try to calm myself. I really think it's because I am new to this, and extremely loving this whole new world I did not know existed.

I too am in my 20's and have had a journey to date. Started with Tudors, Rolex and now on to AP's and looking at RM's. Hopefully I don't get to Greubel Forsey

I think it's awesome guys in their 20's are already into the higher end watches. There is another one here that has the largest AP collection I've ever seen and the sickness continues. It's a progression that is natural, as most watches are merely gateways into higher end brands.

Keep up the good work gents and yes I see RM's for BOTH of you in the near future

I have a friend who is younger than I and has 3x RM's and 2x ROO.
Here's an easy brain teaser for you. He has the Brazil edition RM030 and it matches his Aventador. So what colour is his Lambo?

I cant believe how my mind has changed from the stereo type youngster natural Rolex progression phase.
Ive tried the Patek dress watch phase but it didn't work. And that's the fun of the journey. I think ill stay with sports watches for many years to come.

Haha thankfully I find them very unaesthatic . I'm not complaining about it though. Also don't really like very big watches. I am actually glad my wrists are tiny at 6.25" or I would have way too many more options!!

Not a huge fan of gold. Not yet at least. It just doesn't fit with my character or personality I think. Hard to explain, but I didn't last a day with my friend's gold Sub.
