New Navy ROO - easy colour to use?

Hi,

I am brand new to the AP brand, tried some on yesterday and wow, I fell in love!!

I love the rose gold Royal oak with leather strap, but I think a better starting point would be a Royal Oak Offshore - lower entry price and better daily watch for my lifestyle. I love the rubber strap on a premium watch, very cool.

So I am now considering a few models, the new navy dial + navy strap 26470 - which I have found for £14k for a brand new one.

The others are the 26170 Navy and the 26170 Panda - both costing about £10k for a used one.

So I have a couple of questions.

(1) Does anyone have any experience of using this new navy ROO? I tried it on yesterday and it looked amazing, but I had a blue t-shirt and jeans on, so naturally it matched perfectly! I just wonder when using other colour clothes if the blue ends up clashing or if it still looks just as good?

How easy is it to use basically I want to know, as I intend to use it as my daily watch and put my YG GMT-IIC to rest for special occasions.

(2) Is it a good idea to spend the extra £4k to get a brand new 26470 over a used 26170? I am concerned with reliability and most of all not taking a big hit come resale time & depreciation.

Thanks a lot for any info.

1) really depends what you wear if you want to break the color a bit i am guessing change it to a black strap if you want it to match with you clothes

2)Much prefer the new 26470 line with the new open case backs something you don't get in previous generation ROO, i would definitely put my money on the new ROO line. Since its brand new i can see why your spending 4K more over a used 26170 and i think its worth it unless your over spending on the price of the watch itself.

If your not too certain about this navy ROO take a look at the elephant or black/red color combo of the new 26470s or maybe the new diver before you get an AP.

Thanks for the info.

That leads me to a new question... The other colour combos come with leather straps, how easy is it to get the strap changed to rubber? By that I mean, for a guy living in a small city in England, is it a simple enough job to get done and not too expensive?

Alternatively, how do these leather straps wear? Are they very durable? I currently have a full metal Rolex so it's great day to day, can easily get wet, take the odd bump, and it's no drama. Would the leather AP strap on the ROO be as good or can it not get wet etc?

Thanks

I just acquired the navy 26470 last week. It was also my first AP. it comes with the navy rubber strap which is very comfortable. I have worn it to the office every day. I wear business casual and I think it fits in fine with pretty much any kind of casual or business casual clothing. I have ordered a stainless AP bracelet that I plan on switching to after summer to make it a bit less casual than the rubber. And I think then it can really be worn with most everything. I'd also like to acquire a navy hit back strap as well. With a couple screwdrivers the strap change is straightforward.

I also chose to go with the new 26470 over the 26170 due to the case back and the ceramic pushers. I think it's worth it to have these new materials that will wear much better over time. And being able to see the beauty and detail of the movement is a big plus for me.

Looks so good! I just wear jeans & a polo t-shirt to work, so the whole casual thing will suit great, just wonder how bad the blue will clash on some green or red t-shirt days!

It has to be the 26470. I'm decided on that, the sapphire back is worth it alone.

Have found a very lightly used grey 26470 with an extra 10% off over the blue model, tempting. I really can't decide which colour combo looks best, all 4 are absolute winners and now I know that I can put any on a rubber strap makes it even more difficult.

Might have to make a trip to London and try and see them all in one day. As i've only seen the navy in person.

If you wear 'colored' clothes, go for the black or the grey themes if you want it as your daily. Otherwise, you have to wear blue jeans every single day to match the dial/strap

Make sense.

Well I'll be sure to dress nice and colourful (what clashes with blue?) and take a trip to the London ADs this week to make a decision!

The Navy is beautiful... Put it in a bracelet and it will become very versatile and go with every thing!
Here is an example of the Red Black in a bracelet...
Also if you keep looking on this forum you will come across another member who has his Navy on bracelet and it looks beautiful!
Good luck!

If you plan on wearing it everyday i am a kind of rubber guy when it comes to sports watches, i don't want to worry about getting the strap wet or damaged from water. Sports watches shouldn't limit what you can and can't do wearing it , you could even change the strap yourself its that simple.I don't have experience with a ROO on leather my 44mm comes with rubber so someone else has to answer the durability side.

If I bought one of the new ROO chronos I'd get this one.

I went for the new Navy recently and I love it. The blue isn't a problem for matching purposes and is pretty versatile actually. I also alternate between the rubber and the bracelet.

I would go for it.

If the 26470 had a ceramic bezel I would have been tempted to get one already. I really like this and the black grey themes versions a lot!

I also agree that the rubber strap is perfect for summer, and then the bracelet for the rest of the year would be amazing.

Thanks for sharing, that looks SO good. So the metal AP bracelet... would the main AP service centre supply a customer with one? Or is it more something that needs to be ordered through a friendly dealer / eBay / etc?

Going to head up to London on thursday and have a look at them all, fiancee agrees that the ROO is a great idea, looks like an incoming thread should be posted here soon ;)

My dealer said they could get me one but I found a good deal on a like-new online. I couldn't find many online though.

Went and tried all of them on, black was stunning, grey looked really different and some special, but navy was just what I wanted and nailed the awesome daily watch look.

Found a good deal on one at an independent boutique in Knightsbridge and here it is already on my wrist! Now to find a place to get some dinner and a chance to play with the new purchase ;)

Question for the guys that already own a 26470 on rubber strap. I found it a little annoying that it has no deployant clasp, does it bother you?

No, and I usually prefer deployants. I've found this rubber strap on the 26470 to be very comfortable.
