Should I get rid of my PAM and upgrade to a Nautilus
Hi All,
I have had my PAM 328 for a little over 5 years and enjoyed it during the time and bought 8-10 different OEM and aftermarket straps to use interchangeably. Recently, I have been adding higher end pieces to my collection (Patek Annual Calendar and VC Patrimony) and haven't really worn the PAM as much anymore. Also, compared with the rest of the watches in my collection it just wears really bulky and heavy. Recently, I found that the automatic winding mechanism was not working so took it in for repair, complete overhaul and polish. $1,000 but it came back look brand new and running great. Now my dilemma is, should I keep it and try to learn to enjoy it like I did once before, or should I just go ahead and sell it now that it is back in mint condition and try to trade up for something better. Recently I tried on the Nautilus 5712 and was amazed at how much more comfortable that felt on my wrist than the PAM. The 5712 is a lot more coin but think it would fit better with my current collection and hold up more in the long run. Thoughts?

wow, that looks great and BNIB now. I can relate, I started out as a big PAM fanboy and that has since wanned as I try more watches. That said, I think PAM is a unique look and I recently added one back to use in more casual situations and more as a travel beater. I hear you on comfort and the thickness was my biggest concern, but I feel a PAM is warranted in a 7+ collection. for me anyways.

If the love is gone, flip. Personally, I've always found the 1950 case Luminors to be too bulky and the bracelet only adds to that sensation.

bottom line, if you want to move it then go for it. I was just relating that I sold off Pams and went back - something about that crown guard that pulls me in! |

would buy the patek also. I to tired of the bulk of the pam after 10 years of wearing them. Sold off most, but just picked up the 580. the weight is great with ceramic. If you feel the need to add a pam after yours is gone, try the ceramic style. Think you will enjoy it.

If trading a Pam for a Patek was even an option for me I would do it in a heartbeat.
I think the Nautilus is any of it's guises is a fantastic reference.

I got a 40mm PAM 121 a couple of years ago and since then my collection has grown to include higher end watches (AP, VC, BP). The PAM didn't get much wrist time with the AP and VC dominating probably like your Pateks.
But I've gone on a few recent vacations and really found the original love for my PAM again. To me it is a near perfect travel watch. The 12 hour chronograph times all but the longest flights. It is an everyday watch on a casual or rubber strap, or it can be slightly more dressed up on leather. I don't have a bracelet but that's another option. And since mine is 200m WR, the beach is no problem and strap changes are easy. It also flies under the radar so I don't worry as much about it. And now I'm finding that I wear it more regularly as it has cracked the rotation. So what I guess I'm trying to say is to give it a little time (it doesn't seem like there's a rush) and if the need for a more casual watch just isn't there, sell it. You should have at least a year of warranty so that helps assure any potential buyer. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Haha, yeah, it's obviously not even a fair fight, but I posted here in the Panerai forum hoping that someone could convince me that the spark could come back. Some have said just that but the sense of urgency comes from the point that it is currently in mint condition after the overhaul and polishing and I figure this will be the only time that I can actually recoup the money for the overhaul.
I had actually gone through a phase where I was hardly wearing my GMT Master II any more as well as I was mostly wearing the PAM for the beater on the weekends but I seem to be giving the Rolex more wrist time as the PAM still seems too heavy. My other concern is that the Panerai may lose a lot more of its value as time goes by whereas the Nautilus will hold its value.

Pam on a bracelet is super heavy. Do the flip if you can do it.

OCROLEXGUY is in LA and has an assistant in La Jolla (where I live). He was superb to deal with and will find a way to meet with you. Send him a PM.

Big change size wise. Depends on your lifestyle. If you like sporty (PAM) you may want to consider AP.

Love the 5712...5711...and 5980 But trying on a few AP's might be a good move. I find AP to be a great hybrid between heritage and size. And they make BadA$$ pieces. Definitely worth a shot. |
