saying goodbye to the SD4k

Well after weeks and weeks of never being totally sure the fit of the sd4k was right for my wrist i've decided it must go. These watches aren't cheap and i should be head over heels in love with the watch, rather than trying to make myself fall for it. The watch is great on so many levels and i think if my wrist was 6.5 inches instead of 7.5inches it would have been perfect but my eyes could just not adapt to how small it looked on me.

So on Monday im picking up a 116610LN, ive owned the GMT2c previously and love it so know it will fit me perfectly. I've lost serious money on this deal but money isnt everything and this trade will make me smile at the end of it when im wearing my gorgeous new Sub. I'll share pics of the new arrival on Monday!

I know, I can't help but feel he is having a laugh with us. The only outward difference between these two watches as far as I can tell is the lack of Cyclops on SD4k and the He valve.

The smaller dial, wider bezel and curved lugs of the SD makes it more friendly to smaller wrists but definitely wears smaller than a sub/gmt.
Good luck OP!

And good for you on concluding what will put a smile on your face

No need to live with regrets, just wave them by and move on

If I had 7.5 wrists I'd totally do the DSSD.

They are both 40, the GMT has beefier lugs that must make the difference. They are the reason I sold my GMTIIC.

What was going to say. I also have 7.5" wrists and I tried the SD on and a Daytona, they both looked smaller on me than the Sub.

I'm glad you're doing this since you know it will make you happy. Regarding the cost, I've come to conclude that this hobby, while it can be extremely expensive, isn't as bad as it can appear. The cost of ownership of a SS Rolex after the initial investment is made, is rarely more than a couple of grand if you flip it. I can piss small money away on incidentals without realizing and if I'm a little more mindful, it is easier to recoup some of these types of costs rather painlessly. Even without that, I bought two subs (a tt and a 114060) in February, new in box. If I sold them to a dealer in Feb. 2016, it would cost me 1500-2k. About 125-170/month to own these pieces. I hold them two years, the monthly is cut in half. When I look at it from that standpoint, it became much easier to consider flipping. That's my enabling rationale du jour.

Totally agree, the supercase makes the Sub work for big wristed folks (7.5 wrist also)

I had a DSSD for a while, it is just too tall honestly. (If it is going to be a daily wear under cuff type watch)

Yeah, the DSSD would be a good consideration.
To me, the SubC and SDC are very similar in visual size. This thread has an awesome pic by TRF member "116660" of the SubC, SDC, and DSSD.

The SubC and SDC are really close. Hopefully the OP will be happy with the way the SubC looks on his wrist, but the SubC may not appear significantly larger.

There's a lot around but it's also a great all rounder.

The steel Daytona is 38.6mm

I don't know if anyone here has measured the SD with callipers, but the result might be interesting. The SD is a very pretty watch, but it looks almost mid-size to me (no offence to its many fans).

gotta admit there really isn't a size difference to me between an SD4K, sub and GMT

they all look "about" the same on the wrist, but hey its your wrist and money as long as you are happy in the end

I like the size of the EXp 2 216570 nice size and I have 7.5 inch+ wrists, the sub looked small, the exp looked like a childs watch on my wrist.

Arrivederci
Hope the Sub is more to your liking. Did you try the Sub on at the same time as the SD? What prompted you to buy the SD in the first place? Just curious ...

I had owned 2 16613 subs previously as well as a ceramic gmt and wanted to try something a bit different. In the excitement of it all i never really noticed the size when i first bought it, with time its irritated me.

Hard to beat SubC for 7+ wrists IMO. Tough decision but the right one!
