Thinking of trading my 116520 Daytona for a VC Overseas Chronograph
Thinking of trading my 116520 Daytona black dial for a VC Overseas Chronograph. Either Titanium with gray dial or Stainless with blue dial.
What are your thoughts? Talk me out of it? Good idea? Bad idea? |

I actually love the grey dialed VC...definitely the same overall "look" of the daytona but in a slightly different execution. Grey faces are my kryptonite too.

I wouldn't. You already have a ROC which shares the same base movement as the overseas and I much prefer both the daytona and the ap to the overseas. However I heard that a new overseas line is coming out next year so I would wait if you're interested.

I would not.
I have owned both watches in the past and I believe they Daytona is the better watch, much more comfortable and better proportioned. The VC is just to big and flat, my opinion. Plus, I have also heard there's a new one coming with an in-house movement.

i have the VC Overseas chrono in grey dial. I have the rubber and leather strap and purchased the OEM bracelet. I was thinking of the opposite === selling and going with a Daytona. However, I changed my mind. I like having the date function. Visibility is also a bit better on the VC. I think there is no right answer.

Maybe I should trade the 116520 for a 116519 instead :D:D:D
I do think I would miss my Daytona. And the VC would be repetitive with my ROC, especially after I put the ROC on leather. |

Thinking of trading my 116520 Daytona for a VC Overseas Chronograph
Quote:
I have all three in earlier versions (AP 25860, VC 49140, and Daytona 16520) and would say if a date, slightly better WR and slightly better legibility are important than go with the VC. Yes the AP and VC currently have the same movement but since the date function is executed at 12:00 it looks different enough than the AP to me. Plus it's one of those time tested and frequently used movements (also Blancpain and Cartier). There are a lot of fans of the Daytona look, and it is a classic grail watch for many people. Used, the Daytona will probably run about 5k less and the Daytona will probably hold its value better down the road. But even though I have a recent thread about possibly trading my Daytona for a Glashutte original, my feelings about the watches can be summarized by the bottom row of this picture. I think all three make a great collection Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I know and respect that the Daytona is a cult watch, but that Overseas chrono is stunning, in any color. I love the big data, the dial is way more legible than the Daytona and it is super comfortable. The only downsides are pricing (buy it mint used as it drops $8-10K in value compared to MSRP); not a true in-house movement (even if the FP 11.85 is a very solid movement and nicely decorated and tuned by VC); and finally, I'm not a huge fan of integrated straps (but not a deal killer in this case, there is plenty of flexibility with rubber, leather straps + metal bracelet).
Let us know what you decide. |

Posted on another forum a couple months ago but basically someone had knowledge that VC was refreshing overseas line next year and posted about it. Also it has been mentioned on trf in a couple threads already. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I like that bottom row. I have always thought the AP and VC are redundant but you are making me think otherwise. Which GO are you considering?

I am a huge Daytona fan.
However, I recently bought 3 Vacherons and they have blown me away...so much better than I ever thought they would be. |

The decision is yours, but I will offer my 2 cents. I love the iconic Daytona look--period. Regardless of size, movement, fit on the wrist, date or no date, or whatever, I would still keep the Daytona just for its clean, simple looks. Dates often clutter the dials, in my opinion. I never get tired of that "Daytona look". I owned a TT 116523 and traded it, and regretted that decision forever after. Since then, I have gotten a Black dial 16520, another TT 116523, and am in the works for a gold 16518G. I am a little bit (a lot) crazy, and badly bitten by the allure of the Daytona.

I would 100% make this trade. In fact, I almost did; but, I elected to go with the 15400 - as I just couldn't get that watch out of my head.
I would buy this one. No one knows how good the new movement will be, and since it is an in-house movement, the watch will be more expensive.

I would wait to SIHH 2016 to make up my mind, a new Overseas version is likely to be presented.

I think that the different looks (cases, bracelets, dials, date location), and differences in WR, magnetic shielding make them different enough that I have both. And in fact, when I commented in another thread about having only one watch, I chose the VC Overseas chronograph because it does everything I want in a watch and the better WR makes it more suitable for swimming than the ROC. And for what its worth, I'm considering the new blue Seventies Chronograph

I would keep the Daytona. If you trade, in a month you will regret it.
