Rolex or Tudor

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forum.

I'm looking into buying my first Rolex (submariner with no date) or Tudor (Pelagos) from Mayor's jewelers. I know they are the same company and the prices well are very apart. does Tudor main its value as Rolex? are mayors jewelers prices competitive?

thanks for the reply.

Hi,
If you are buying from an Authorised Dealer, as opposed to a private dealer, then you will take a hit on the resale value with either watch. I would say both hold a similar percentage of their value in resale however (maybe the Sub a bit better).

Bear in mind that a new Pelagos with in-house movement and a new colour option (blue) is expected in stores any day now.

If you are a serious diver, you also might want to consider that the Pelagos has a better depth rating (500m) than the Sub (300m), and better lume.

Thanks for the Reply, I'm mostly concerned about price. I believe in my area the new Pelagos is coming in about a week and a half max.

I've been reading and for a daily watch the Tudor is not a bad option. That way i give my Ulysse Nardin a rest.

Did the dealer tell you the price for the new Pelagos?

You can usually find the current black one new or almost new in the classifieds here for around $3,000. The new blue one will probably eventually get close to that but maybe not for a year or so, I would think. Seems like everybody wants one around here.

I wouldn't expect a discount at Mayors on either piece.

Take a look at watchrecon you will find a couple of pelagos for around 3k...

Now the blue one will take a while to drop on price... also we got to see how the performance of the new in house movement will be.

I am probably biased because I bought a SubC a few months ago.

To my taste, I am not too crazy about the snowflake hour hand of the Pelagos. It looks to chunky for me.

the case is definitely thicker. it wears higher on the wrist but is a lighter feeling watch. id take the sub all day if i were paying 4,200. but for 3k its a toss up.

since he wants the blue smart money says wait 6 months to a year and get it for 3300-3500. however, now money says f it im going to mayors.

It depends on the reference and budget.

That's because it's designed for diving and unique to dive watches, unlike the small mercedes hour hand on the Sub.
