ROO 44mm QUESTIONS

I'm loving my Diver and am now considering an SS ROO (most unusually for me it's the least expensive in the range that sings loudest!)

I would appreciate knowing if owners often swim with these pieces, and if anybody can kindly explain (in simple terms) how the stoppers are waterproofed. The AP spec says "screw-locked crown and pushpieces", which I can't get my head around.

I ask as I often swim with the Diver and have done with my 15400 as well.

Thanks.

Clive - I don't know the technical answer, but why would these be any different than the rest of the ROO line-up (including the Diver)? I have seen friends with 42/44mm ROOs in the pool.

I've had several different 44mm (Novelties) in the pool and other water without any issues.

Most crowns and pushers are lock-down (most Rolex, Diver, I assume ROO42)....but the 44 has those beautiful rectangular pushers, so how does that work?

Sorry if I didn't make my question clear.

Clive,

This is only a ball park guess as I am no watchmaker, But the pushers are rectangular, and the connecting rod that attaches to the pusher and goes into the case to the movement is round bar. So the holes in the case are not rectangular and not big like the pushers are.

I would imagine the connecting rods are very small, like 1mm to 2mm small, similar to the stem on the crown... There has to be multiple gaskets around the little holes that the pusher rods feed into through the case and more gaskets around the pushers them selves. Using the pushers underwater could force water through the holes into the movement.

I would imagine AP's set up is much more technical and Different than what I'm stating... But at least you can have some kind of idea of the set up. If someone has an exploded view of the 44mm, im sure that would help us see what kind of parts are being used where.

The 44's are fine in the pool or ocean. I wouldn't go diving in it. The depth rating isn't nearly as deep as the diver for good reason.

AP instructs the user to never use the pushers or crown while the watch is submerged under water, as that may force water into the movement.

as long as you do that, you will be just fine in any swimming conditions. just don't take it past 100m. Audemars im sure pressure tests these watches past the rated depth anyways.

It's AP magic

Clive, think you are in Geneva, call the Boutique or stop by and see that they say (as stated above, do not push while under water). Curious to see how they explain it.

Sounds like the work of over-enthusiastic marketing people :)

One way I think of it is it must work like the valve stem on a car engine. Theres a beautifully polished round 1 or so mm stem with very low friction and a seal around it. Car valves slide up and down....no wait motorbike valve go up and down 18,000 times a minute for days and don't let oil from the engines head into the combustion chamber.
