Icon10 Hello from Western Australia - Nervous First Time Buyer

Hi everyone

Thought I'd come over and introduce myself.

I love jewellery, in particular, diamonds. I am on numerous jewellery forums and over the years have made great friends, all around world, from this hobby. As a result of frequenting those forums, watches started to feature more and more in my thoughts and subsequent wish list.

I am new to Rolex and was directed here by another watch enthusiast.

I recently visited the only two AD's in the area and ended falling in love with Datejust Lady 31, with the silver dial with diamond markers.

I thought, style wise, I'd be more a Cartier girl, but the minute that Rolex went on my wrist, I was sold.

I'd love to hear your thoughts about buying Rolex in Australia. The issue of discounts seems to be contentious one and whilst I know what my heart desires I don't want to get ripped off either.

I have looked at the amazing sellers on here too. However with our exchange rate being what it is and taking into account GST and duty on receipt, I don't think that's an option at this time.

I appreciate you taking the time to read my introduction and thank you for all the useful advice I have found within this forum.

Hi Susi.

Go see Joel Smales at Subi, tell him you love VW's, bagpipes and rockabilly.

Then hit him for a big discount, he's a good guy.

Tell him Eddie sent you.

Hi susi

Welcome. I live in Perth and recently ventured over to watches after fountain pens. Strange for being a young guy.

Discounts are obviously contentious and with the dollar even more so. One thing you have in your favour is that the model your after is possible. A lot of the comments are around sport watches (submariner gmt Daytona etc) which can be quite difficult to get a discount in Perth.

Given you have a jewellery background I would suggest smales. There could be benefits wrapped up other ways.

Alternatively if your in Melbourne or Sydney there is that option.

I made the decision for my first to buy from an AD and I'm glad I did. I could of saved around 500-1000 buying online but to me the safety was worth it.

I've had good and bad experiences with both ADs we have here.

All you can do is ask.

Eddie

I met him a couple of years ago when I was looking at diamond rings. He gave me a real hard time for buying my engagement ring from the U.S.
Said I had let Australia and Scotland down.

When it's time to buy I'll head over in my tartan mini skirt and see how I go!!

Thank you for that. It all makes sense. Being a newbie to this world is scary because it's big $$$ even at entry level.
I'd much prefer the comfort of buying from an AD as I am way to green at this to try anything else. However I also don't want to waste a reasonable sum of money if I don't have to.

I was treated very respectfully at both but we haven't talked money yet.

I'll be sure to do a reveal when I get it and comment on how I got.

Oh and I like pens too. I have been obsessed with pens and stationery since a young age. Perhaps it's a natural progression.

Well he sells South African 'hearts on fire' diamonds so he shouldn't be complaining about a purchase from the US.

Talk to Ron.
