I think after this watch is released, people will be after it like the SS Daytona, at least in the first few months. It will be really hard to find and may even come with mark ups in prices for a short time after its release. Thats just my forecast.

I don't expect the Dippy to be released in very large numbers, and so I agree that it will be hard to come by.

I disagree that it will become another Daytona (except for the hard-to-get part). The Daytona has a universal appeal and thousands of lists exist, many are several years long, in every country, for the Stainless Steel version.....but not for any other Daytona model.


The Dippy will be about the same price.....it will have a loyal and large following within the dive-watch community. But I just don't see it ever gaining the recognition and demand of the Cosmo....

You're right Larry, I agree that the Deep Sea will never have the same demand as the SS Daytona, especially in the long run. What I meant to say was that maybe after the Deep Sea's initial release, people will be in demand for it in a similar manner as the Daytona or maybe even the Milgauss GV, though not nearly as extreme. I only meant this in the short term, Im sure after a year or two, these Deep Seas can be readily seen in the showcases of ADs as easily as the GMT II-C is now.

Funny story, I was poking around the AD in the local mall just for fun and the owner of my local SCUBA shop walks in. He starts asking the lady if the have any DSSD in stock, which they didn't. So he had her order one...small world.

I guess its funny to me because this guy is famous in the SCUBA diving world and normally sports a Blue Sub.

Perhaps it's a boring story, I thought it was funny because it is truly a small world.

I had a chance to try out an exact model of the Deepsea from my AD. I only examined it for a few minutes as i had a business appointment and was just killing a few mins. of time. Sorry, i didn't have a camera with me so no pics:

My quick impression:

1. It is big and heavy.
2. The case thickness is like 1.5 the size of the GMTIIc. It's a difficult fit on a long-sleeved shirt.
3. The "Ring Lock System" characters are not very obvious. You'll hardly notice that it's there. Sort of like the "RolexRolexRolex" writings. It is only visible on certain light conditions.
4. Ceramic bezel is as nice as the GMTIIc.

if I have to choose between the DSSD or the GMTIIc, I'd go for the GMTIIc without hesitation nor remorse. When I put both of them side by side, for me the GMTIIc is the more beautiful watch. My AD thinks so too.

The DSSD is a beautiful watch and I'm pretty sure others would love it. It just doesn't smile at me the same way as a GMTIIc does.

I will NOT have it sized.
I will wait 10 weeks and keep my eyes on the prices.
IF it goes up to 10,500 I will sell it! Or at least I will
really consider it as I think after 18 mths they will be easier
to get.

If they do not go up I will keep it and wear it with pride.
I have some VERY nice watches BUT this will be my first watch over
$2500 purchased new. I am very excited!

I am starting to think I am foolish getting it when I do not dive much
(or deep) and I have 6 and 3/4 in wrists BUT oh well! I think it will
look ok!

I think its funny, when I was younger I thought they Sub was too big for me
BUT now I wear a Navitimer and am debating a 44 and 45 mm Panerai haha.

Am i gonna look like an idiot with watches that big???

Mg GF/Soon to be fiance is lucky, I like fine wines, fine firearms and watches....
