Flip PP 5711 for a WG Smurf, or keep saving and add?

What would you do?

I won't say that the smurf is unobtainable, however I will need some time to save up, with some other obligations at this time.

Rotating between my loved SS GMT, and 5711.
I enjoy both, however find the GMT a much more "fun" watch. I guess that is expected as it is more casual which suits my attire, and also a perfect mix of understated but still present, not to mention the durability.

The 5711 is absolutely stunning as well. Much more understated, but still a pleasure to wear, and looks incredible in a suit or business casual.

The smurf is incredible because of the blue. WG and being a much rarer Rolex is just a bonus for me. What attracts me the most is how beautiful the watch actually is in that flat blue dial.
I find that the 5711 is much much harder to come across, and I worry I will regret flipping it. Mine was bought BNIB, and was only worn by me, and that as many of you are aware is not easy to come by.

What would you do if you were me?

Keep the 5711, keep saving. I have a feeling by the time you'll have saved up you'll either really be sure you want it or move onto something else. For now though, being the only owner of the 5711 is where I would stay.

Was thinking this is the wiser of the two.
I would have sold it without a doubt if I did not enjoy wearing it.
I may enjoy the GMT more because it better fits my life style, but when I am dressed in business casual, or a suit, or any weekend occasion that doesn't involve too much booze, it is always the 5711 that I pick, and is a pleasure it wear all the time.

I'm always in favor of adding to the collection. Hence the term, "collection". :)

I only sell when I find that the watch has fallen out of rotation, and even then only to replace it with something else.

Cheaper to save up for the 116619 than repurchase a 5711 later.

well if this was ME, I would flip them both for the Smurf and be done. the Smurf is a do all, any where, any time watch. dress up or down it is perfect in every situation

so it would replace the Patek (and it is a stunning and beautiful SS watch) and for me also no need or desire to wear the SS GMT after you get that baby

my 2 cents and you asked

Absolutely something I thought of as well.
If I had the smurf and 5711 both, I know that the smurf would get more wrist time because of my active life style and casual attire. I also know that the 5711 will definitely cross my mind and I will find myself looking to buy it again.

Seems like the sensible thing IS to save up for the smurf.

Thank you for the response, and absolutely appreciate your and everyone's opinion.
Flipping the 5711 for the Smurf is an option. However ridding of the GMT is not.
I love it so much! I will also need a travel watch as I do go away at least once a month. I see your point about the smurf being able to cover all other aspects otherwise though.
Beautiful shot btw!

Save and buy the Smurf. I'm a big fan of adding, not selling.

Save and buy the Smurf later. I think you will regret the flip.

You are just caught up in the moment. It happened a lot with me too when I first got into watches.

I can speak from experience in saying that this is 100% true. The only solution is to own both.

At the end, you will need both a PP and a PM Rolex in the collection to stop the itch.

I have both 5711 and Smurf. I've gotten a little bored of the Smurf but still love my 5711. Keep the 5711 and save up

I was just about to suggest this.

There will still be occasions you would want to wear the 5711. But I doubt there would be many occasions, if any, where you picked the BLNR over the Smurf.

I thinking flipping is okay in some instances. Since you said you don't need to flip (albeit some time is needed), I would not in this case. Save and get the Smurf. It would be a fantastic TRIO! Good luck!

P.S. Assuming you add (i.e. not flip), you could always sell your 5711 down the road should it not be getting the wrist time you thought / hoped. It's a pretty "liquid" piece.

I'm going with Tom here. It is not just that I own the 116619LB myself, but it gets more wrist time than my other watches. This one goes with everything. Of course you can save for it, that is up to you
