What qualifies for a Rolex servicing?

Thinking about pulling the trigger with one of the trusted sellers here. My question is this(and forgive me if its common knowledge or has been beat to death): Other than buying brand new from an authorized retailer in a store, how do you go about getting the watch serviced if you buy preowned, or even BNIB with all papers from one of the sellers here? Maybe there is a sticky on the forum somewhere that spells out how you go about doing this, or not, but I haven't located it yet. I read the posts about owners waiting until they get their "service" to clean, recondition, make like new again, etc. but I don't know how to go about that is not buying from an AD. Can anyone give me the easy answer. Thanks all.

Im in the same boat as you. I got mine from a reputable jeweler but even he didnt know if/when it was last serviced. He did tell me not to mess with it as long as its keeping good time though. My watch is from 2003. The only thing that bother me are the scratches on the bracelet.

the service procedure is the same regardless of whether the watch was purchased preowned, grey, new, abroad, etc

just take it to an AD and have them send it for a service OR take it directly to the service center in your country

this is a separate transaction to buying the watch and an AD will be pleased to handle it for any rolex, even if it was not purchased from them, as they will be getting money from you

Same here Desibaba, my GMT II pepsi is a 2004, and if I keep it I would like to see about the servicing if for no other reason than to bring back to new. If I buy from here, I would like to have the ability to have it serviced with the proper protocol. I am sure some of the wise souls here will guide us.

Thanks Beer, does the AD require any of the paperwork or anything of that nature? Or just show up ready to pay and send off?

I don't think so, I know that people have sent very old pieces in where everything except for the watch itself is long gone - I think the service centre authenticates the watch when it arrives

It's no different than taking anything in for an overhaul. Nothing else is required, nothing is expected.

You drop it off, wait for the estimate and price, give the go-ahead (or not), and when you get it back you pay the bill; just like dropping off the laundry.

Rolex will service a 30-year-old watch you found in the gutter, as long as they have the parts and it wasn't reported stolen, and treat it exactly the same as one bought five years ago from a Rolex AD.

Just to add to Adam's point, only if the watch is genuine and no aftermarket parts.

And if it was a stolen watch and reported to Rolex, it will not come back

Not exactly. They will still service a watch, but will replace all aftermarket parts with genuine Rolex ones.

Look Rolex dont need to know or even care where the watch was bought and if out of warranty need no paperwork whatsoever. As they will quite happily take your money to service as long as its genuine, even if its was bought of a guy in Timbucktoo.Plus if you ring a RSC they will even send you the packaging box plus all the instructions on how to post that must be followed to the exact letter. When watch arrives at Rolex they will ring you after inspection on the cost of service etc which you agree to go ahead or reject if price reject Rolex will ship watch back at your cost..
