I Don't Know What to Say

Professional sports has had its scandals through the years regarding targeting players in an effort to injure key players and there have been more than a few instances of unsportsmanlike conduct in other levels of play, but I don't think I've ever seen anything like this.

The school district says that this attack on an official is not the kind of sportsmanship that is taught to high school players and I would hope that is true.

But, whom do young players emulate?

Well, I'm sure you know.

If that was the game that was in Texas, I didn't click the link, but anyway they would never play football again in that school district

I take that back, I do know what to say, criminal charges should be filed against those two. Simple assault least, no question.

Against another player, that would be outrageous but not unprecedented.
I don't think I have ever seen an official targeted in a premeditated way before.
Yes, criminal charges for sure here.

I agree with that in the sense of this incident. Totally unacceptable.

But in general, officials have always been a part of play-making choices by savvy receivers and QBs. Those who predictably stand immobile in a slot have often been used as a pivot "pick point" to scrub off a defender.

Using a ref as a pick is common, and the ref's look for it. This had nothing to do with the play. Simple assault and some jail time for the idiots.

Yes, investigation and if neccesary prosecution (players, coaches, staff). Certainly looks premeditated but that is why authorities need to investigate.

The bad news is that we see and here of similar poor sportsmanship more and more, partially becuase of the increased media coverage. The good news is that MILLIONS of kids play sports weekly and do not do these immature acts. Good sportsmanship goes very far

Yep, that's why I agree with the opinions stated here.

My aside was to share how common it is to make contact with a ref in the flow of a play.

That's a whole different situation, this ref was nowhere near the action, and you can see that he was targeted by both players.

Regardless of their reasons for doing this, how stupid can they be to make it so blatant. I agree with the posters that they should be charged with battery.

Two players from the team of the offending players had been previously ejected, including the quarterback.

It seems the thugs, uh players, thought it was payback time.

Now an assistant coach is suspended for allegedly saying, "That guy needs to pay for cheating us" prior to the hits.

The coach should be kicked out and his coaching certificate burned and never allowed to coach anything again. The players should be expelled from school, and not allowed to participate in any organized sports again. Oh yeah, charge everyone. Assault for the players and I'll think of something for the coach. Possibly conspiring to commit assault. Absolutely disgusting.

Those boys and the referee are really lucky they did not snap his neck, back or kill him. Criminal. Arrest the coach too that encouraged it.
