57 years old today; retirement too soon?

Been thinking about retirement lately; my daughters are 10 and 14 and I feel like I should enjoy them more before they leave the nest. Both daughters excel at sports and I miss most of their games. In addition, my wife runs to and from practice every day. On a personal level, I have properties and investments to keep me busy along with more time to bicycle and travel. I would also do some volunteer work if I found the time. Any TRFs retire before 60ish? It would also free me to buy another watch to celebrate!

In same boat

I am 57 and can retire financially. But I do enjoy new income coming in and having things to do. But I hope to retire within a year or so.

Its never too early to retire as long as you can afford to do it.

It's never to early, I plan to retire at 45 but I don't have kids, wife, or any other things to worry about!

Absolutely correct. I was fortunate enough to retire at age 54 and recommend it.

This, I was fortunate to retire at 51, if you can afford it I'd do it. You'll never get that time back with your daughters. Both of my daughters grew up while I was working swing shifts and I missed so much of those times.
I absolutely love retirement, I wasn't sure at first but I'm a little over 2 1/2 years in and I just love my life now. No regrets, none. As someone posted a couple days ago here about Law Enforcement retirement, I do miss the clowns but not the circus.
I still stay in touch with my guys and they still call me for advice which I love, but don't miss the crapola that I put up with for 26 years.

Retired at 54, bought myself a Blue Black as a gift to me, my wife retired last year at 55, bought her a SDC and a Porsche. Bought a couple of other Rolex since, been retired 2 years now.

I am tempted to go back to work so I can buy myself more gifts when I leave again.

Do it, I now only use my phone to surf the net!

You are a long time dead my friend and life gets no easier as the joints stiffen.

I say as long as you can afford to. I retired at 52 after 32 years with the same company. Had my son through college and my daughter just beginning.

I'm 62 now and began collecting Social Security last month. It's been the best 10 years of my life.

Enjoy life while you can.

Nearly 57 and can retire but work from home and enjoy what I do, not to mention a great salary and benefits and rarely a full work day. Add tons of flexibility to do as I need during normal work hours and frankly, hard to walk away.
Fear being busy for a few months and then scratching my head to figure out what to do.

I'm hoping to "retire" at 55. Goal from there will be to work for fun money to buy watches, cars, and vacations, but have the assets to take care of necessities and regular living expenses.

You only live once. If you can swing retirement financially, go for it.

Retired at 59.

It is imperative that one stay busy and involved in something, whether it is work or play.

Having teens at home should be a worthy project.

I have a friend who is 69, or thereabout, and has a thirteen year old and he's quite occupied.

If you can, go for it. Work is a blessing but to be able to let go of the grind is what all the hard work was for.

Entrepreneur. Retired at 46, financially comfortable. Was going insane bored out of my mind at 47, and unhappy with no creative work; no satisfaction of earning new income. No kids. Went back to work in my own business. Happy now...

Work, or play or family. Something. Just not retirement, if it means doing nothing
