Daytona 'shiny' subdials

So I've had my SS Daytona for 3 months now and have decided that I love everything about it except the shiny/reflective subdials. I find them distracting and simply not aesthetically pleasing. Did the SS model ever have matte/brushed subdials?

Yes, the 16520 had black subdials which were not too shiny.

not the new model so would need to go to PM dials...

although I have both and see nothing wrong with the subs on the SS model...

This is the one and only reason I currently don't own a ss Daytona. Rolex made this change gradually, the answer might be to locate a stand-alone Daytona dial, either black or white, which comes from an early model, e.g. Y or F serial, and exchange it. The sub-dials on those early watches were a lot less glossy.

I loved the subdials of the SS Daytona.

They silver rings looked like they were set lower than the middle white part. It gave the dial a look of having different dimensions.

It really depends on the lighting. 95% of the time, I think the subdials look great. On the other 5%, they can be a little distracting.

I kind of like the shine. Sometimes when the light hits it right you can see a variety of colors.

The Daytona in general is a very shiny watch. Especially with the highly polished bezel and the PCLs

I think the shiny subdials look great on a black dial.

I did not like the silver on the white - too stark for my tastes. In hindsight I should have sourced a Zenith dial with the black sub dials and changed the dial out instead if giving up on the watch entirely.

The problems is the 4030 and 4130 movements have different layouts.

Thanks. I just learned something. Interesting that the dealer that I bought the watch from was the one that made that suggestion to me.

FWIW, here's a shot of my F series - I've never compared it against a newer one, so can't comment on the difference.

Different movement, wouldn't fit. I like the Zenith dial too.

There are versions with the single tick dial that have the less shiny subdials. That's the one I have and prefer it to the shinier ones

I got rid of mine for just that reason. Now I want a Zenith model with the black subdials. First world problems I know lol

Agree 100% with OP and struggled with same issue. As such my SS white got very little wrist time. I also personally found the white dial to be really bland

But like many here, I swapped in a Panda dial. Totally transforms the watch IMO, and now it rarely leaves my wrist. The Panda dial resolves 2 of the issues often raised - legibility and the shiny dials. At least it did for me

I had one of those. Great looking, especially in photos, but very poor legibility in real life.

I love mine, as I previously posted... "it gleams".

The watch gleamed in the dealers and continues to do so, without appearing rude, did you try the watch on before purchase. Because I always ask myself - "am I going to be happy with this in 1, 5 or 10 years time?"

The answer when considering the Cellini... was "no", so I walked away. The Daytona SS white just screamed to be bought. I also have a white faced DJ with white gold Roman numerals, the watch is so clean it.... "gleams'.

exactly. I had the single tick 116520 and the less blingy, showy subdials definitely make a difference.

Love the sub dials, isn't a bother to me and I would be happy with either the current or a Zenith.

I can't handle the shiny subdials, either.

It's really a shame that Rolex doesn't offer more dial options for the SS Daytona.
